low does pills and extra pounds

a visit to the gyno revealed that I've gained 20 lbs in the last year :(

I asked the doctor if it could be the pill, and she said that it wasn't very likely, since I'm on Alesse and the dose is super low (20 micrograms of estrogen). She also said that they've done studies with higher dose pills than mine and that weight gain isn't really a problem even on the higher does pills. It's very weird though, since I've been eating better and getting more exercise than I ever used to.

so, any of you girls on low dose pills, or that might know something about this, help, please? Have you had weight gain on low dose pills?

I gained 10 pounds or so within a few months of starting on the pill. Could be related, could be coincidence...

actually, within the first few months, I lost weight.... I think this weight gain is more recent.

You said you've been eating better and getting more exercise. Are you sure you've not gotten into better shape? Muscle *does* weight more than fat.

I didn't gain weight while on the pill, but found it difficult to lose it.. though I am not sure if the pill was the problem or not.

I know that muscle weighs more than fat, *but*
a) muscle takes up less space
b) muscles can burn calories just sitting there, so the more muscle mass you've got, the more calories you burn, and you wind up losing fat, too.

Some of my clothes don't fit, so it *can't* be that I've just put on some muscle mass.

I'm on a high dose pill but I thought I'd throw in my own two cents. I gained 20 pounds over the course of 3 years. My doctor at the time said it had nothing ot do with the pills, which I think is a bunch of hogwash.

I swear i've put on a bit of weight since i started taking Tri Cyclen. All in my boobs, too.

I've been on ortho-tricyclen for about four months now and I have gained some weight too (also in the boobs).

my first thought when I looked at this post (and the one above it) was "I wish". Then I remembered that I'm a 36 D to begin with, and changed my mind :)

I've been told that it isn't the pill itself that causes you to gain weight -- but the hormones in the pill make you feel hungrier, so you end up *eating* more.
