Are there averse effects to skipping Fake-Pill Week and just starting on a new pack? Really? Though it'd feel pretty odd to not have a period, and bleeding is a free pregnancy test, I'm damn tempted.
There's all sorts of studies that have come out within the last few years that say that bleeding is unnecessary for women to have their "periods" while on the pill.
(Take a look at Yahoo's news archives: http://headlines.yahoo.com/Full_Coverage/Health/Birth_Control/ (http://headlines.yahoo.com/Full_Coverage/Health/Birth_Control/))
They've done clinical studies where women had a "period" 4 times a year... after the study I believe over 80% of the women said they prefered 4x over 12x.
I'd talk with your GYN -- I've been skipping periods while on the pill for years and never had a problem. In fact, it worked out really well when I got married. :)
I have skipped my period and 'moved' it to a more convient week and it worked ok. But, when I skipped it altogether I had a few more cramps and a heavier flow. However that was a lot better than having it the week I went to Disneyland in a RV with my boyfriend and three more male relatives... :)
I sometimes do three months normal pills before fake pills-it's like that seasonal Pill but self-prescribed. I like my period, but it times itself very inconveniently if left on its own. I haven't fallen down dead or anything from skipping fake-Pill week, yet =)
which pill are you on? it doesn't work nearly as well if you're on a multi-phasic one... orthotrycyclen for instance. a lot of women get breakthrough bleeding if they try it.. i tried it and just bled anyhow, a period while i was taking the first week's pills. might not do that for you.. but if you are on a multiphasic one and want to try it i'd recommend switching to a non-multiphasic (whatever that's called :) one first...
