[identity profile] tyrsalvia.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] menstrualhut
Ok, I'm not a paid user, so I can't make any kind of official poll. Anyhow, personally I love the off-topic posts here. But, as witnessed by someone's earlier post, that's not the case with everyone. I was thinking about founding a community for women's health where anything relating to a woman's body can be discussed, with an emphasis on self-help, shared information, and natural medicine. It looks like there isn't anything like this at the moment already. Creating this community would take the off-topic posts out of this community into a space where only interested people would see them. At the same time, it might fragment the women's lj community. What do you think, would this be a welcome outlet for off-topic posts, or would it only serve to fragment this awesome community that we've created? Thanks.

There's a natural medicine community, but it isn't woman-specific.

sorry, posted that too early :)

anyway -- why would this community be fragmented by the existence of a community that discusses other issues? it's not like there's a limit to the # of communities you can join :)

there is http://livejournal.com/community/naturalmed
it's a new community so probably doesn't have a lot of members yet.

I reckon as most of the off the topic posts seem to relate to use of contraceptive pills - someone who is interested in this should make a community solely for discussion and advice relating to the pill.

You know, when I founded the hut, the idea was all women's issues, with menstruation as the "crown jewel"...women's health is certainly a valid post here. If it's in regards to women and the bodies they have, it's on topic, as far as I'm concerned.

That's something that I was wondering when that other post showed up... "someone should ask our lovely moderator to tell us what exactly *is* on topic"

it might be helpful if you posted this in the community at large, or stuck it in the community info.

just a thought ^_^

Not a bad idea at all. :) It'll happen today.

I figured women sittin' around in a menstrual hut would talk about anything that came to mind, not just menstruation. I like this place as a forum where anything about women's health can be asked and there's no squeamishness or "TMI" or apologies for mentioning blood and intimate issues. Why fragment the community?
