I think that I have a Urinary Tract Infection...although I have never had one, I am almost certain. So I am asking for a few tips...first and foremost, if anyone knows the symptoms can you reply and tell me to see if mine relate. Is this treated by antibiotics? How did I get it? I have a couple ideas of how I got it, but is it sexually related by any chance? I know they tell you to pee before and after sex to avoid it, and I haven't been. The things I am experiecning is slight discomfort when I am finished peeing and the feeling that I have to pee even after I have just peed and a discomfort. Are these symptomatic of a UTI? Any comments or help is greatly appreciated. Also, is it an infection that I can pass between my partner and back and forth or is it just something I got and can treat or will it go away on its own? I am about to go do some research and go to work, but I would love feedback. Thanks..

If you think something is wrong, give your Dr. a call. That is the only way to get it treated, anyway, and you don't want to let something like that go.

Date: 2002-01-08 03:33 pm (UTC)your symptoms sound like it.
there are many anti-botics,
one time i got painkillers too that made my pee orange.
it was cool.
hehe.
anyway- DRINK ALOT!
cranberry juice has natural things in it that helps relieve it.
sex can cause it, also when wiping always wipe from front to back, otherwise it will spread the bacteria into the wrong places.
it is natural for women to get one or two uti a year.

I have had many many many UTI's. There are sypmtoms before you have an official UTI......other than that you are dehydrated and you need to drink lots and lots of fluids until your pee is almost clear....not bright yellow. A bad UTI is when you see blood in your urine despite not having your period at the time. And a bad UTI is that you can't stand walking, or sitting, or anything. The treatment for a UTI from a doctor is antibiotics, but it is totally unneccesary unless you have symptoms so bad you want to give up living.
I have had UTI's where they weren't that bad, got antibiotics, then got a yeast infection, got more antibiotics, then got an ear infection.....more antibiotics, that kinda killed all the bugs in my system....it was a disaster. Please, don't let that happen to you.
Drink more fluids. My fave is Gatorade, because you can drink lots of it quickly. Cranberry juice is really good for it. Even cranberry pills work well.
Hope this helps,
the UTI guru

Date: 2002-01-08 05:04 pm (UTC)Unfortunately, UTI's can turn into kidney infections which can be very dangerous.. so get it checked out.
I once went 10 days with an extreme uti... like.. being unable to sleep, extreme pain with every activity.... The nurse that talked to me almost dropped her jaw on the floor when she heard how long I had been having symptoms before I called.
Just be careful, this is your body... treat it like the worthy being it is.

Date: 2002-01-08 05:21 pm (UTC)i admin another related community about vaginas (http://www.livejournal.com/users/vaginapagina). here's a link (http://chupacabra.inkshop.org/~jaclyn/vagina.htm) to an archive of all of the discussions that have come up so far. if you scroll down just a bit, you'll see a list of links for UTIs that is fairly comprehensive. hopefully you'll do what you can to take care of it soon (if that's what you indeed have) because if left untreated, UTIs can turn into kidney infections which are dangerous and *very* painful (as someone already mentioned).

Date: 2002-01-08 06:36 pm (UTC)I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but I get a lot of lower back pain when I get a UTI. It starts off mild, and is usually pretty severe within a couple of days. Usually what works for me is a LOT of cranberry juice and water, plenty of Azo (one thing about it-the stuff turns your pee BRIGHT orange, like Kool-Aid), and bed rest. This should help until you can get in to a doctor and can get some antibiotics. If you ignore it, things can escalate into a kidney infection (as stated before), and that's pretty ugly.

Date: 2002-01-08 09:18 pm (UTC)One more thing to keep in mind - make sure you're aware of any drug allergies you may have. The standard treatment for a UTI is a type of drugs known as 'sulfa drugs'. I'm allergic to these (and little else), so the first time I had a UTI and they gave me sulfa drugs, I didn't know what was wrong, only that I ended up feeling *worse*. They suggested I take Benedryl, which worked out fine. Anyhow, watch out for sulfa drugs because they're a fairly common allergy, so if you haven't taken them before just make sure you don't get a fever or hives or anything weird. I guess it sounds obvious, but I didn't know the first time, so I'm passing it on.
