Jan. 11th, 2002 08:56 pmIs it quite normal to have a clear, pus-like fluid emerge from the nipples when you use your hands to sort of 'milk' your breasts? It never concerned me much before, but lately they've been terribly sore unless I take the time to milk them out every now and then... and I've been getting an awful lot of fluid, maybe a teaspoon, if i work at them.
if it helps to know, i'm 16...

Date: 2002-01-11 06:46 pm (UTC)Hyperprolactanemia (probably spelled wrong). This is a problem with the pituitary gland that can cause you to lactate (and early lactation IS clear). If you have irregular periods, that is another sign of the problem. A visit to the endocrinologist (or even a GP) to measure the levels of prolactin in your blood can usually give them an idea. . .I had that, and they gave me an MRI to make sure the growth on the pituitary gland was not huge (it wasn't).
It could also be a cyst in your breasts, that is the cause of the last round of breast leaking (clearish) that I had, but sometimes it was a bit of a greenish yellow. My gynecologist poked around and a midwife even pointed it out to me so I could feel exactly where it was.
I guess there could be other causes but those are the two I have personally experienced.
