So I mope around the house most of the day, and my period finally starts to slow down. I can actually use one tampon for four hours, instead of one every hour. I decide to get off my butt and get some errands done-- and woosh, the rate picks up until I use up all the supplies I brought out with me and I have to run back home.

Jeez. Can't I put a regulator valve on this thing? ;)

One an hour? Good lord, woman. You sure you're not using, say, Q-tips?

Jesus. I use the tampax slimfit satin teenage wuss tampons, and I usually don't have a problem... but I skipped a month, and now I'm sitting here worrying that the dam is going to break and I'll walk around with a huge red splotch on my front all day. THAT'D BE PLEASANT. Thank god for jackets...
I dunno... When you skip a month (are you on BC?), does your period come sooner than normal & raging?

Can you use a larger size tampon? If you're already using the largest available, have you seen a doctor about this? bleeding that much for more than one day in your period is probably not a good idea. Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to lose significant amounts of blood during dismennorhea (spelling?) and that, I assure you, is a Bad Thing.

dysmenhorrea... painful periods?
::confused look::

I believe that pain is not a prerequisite, but often accompanies disfunctional menstruation. Certainly, when I was diagnosed (and put on the pill), my bouts of excessive bleeding were not always painful. Sometimes I didn't even notice until I wondered "Why am I all wet?"

I think amy was just confused because of your usage of the word "dysmenhorrea" which means "painful periods" to refer to menstruation itself. :o)

Ah. My error, I'm sorry. My doctors thought it meant disfunctional menstruation, including but not limited to painful periods. I'm sure they were wrong.

no worries, just trying to prevent massive confusion...

I used to have to change tampons every hour, and those where super plus ones. I use the keeper now, and have to empty MUCH less frequently (every 5 or 6 hours on heavy days) which is great.

I've never heard of an applicator to put a diaphragm in... they do make them for putting the spermicidal jelly in, however.

you don't need an applicator for the Keeper, because you don't have to get it anywhere near your cervix. just fold the thing up and pop it inside... heh

sorry, pressed that "post comment" button too soon.

Keeper works just fine while you're sleeping (even if you do major tossing and turning, like myself)... I'm honestly not sure about swimming, but it seems like it would be fine -- it creates a seal so all the blood stays in the Keeper, on THAT side...
you know, I might have to go try that next time I'm bleeding, just so I know from experience if it works or not. haha. could be mildly embarassing if it doesn't, though...
