seems that there are tons of questions about the Keeper, lately...
just wanted to offer some help. :) hehe...
the comment page of this entry is officially a Keeper Q&A free-for-all. :) I'll answer anything anyone wants to know about it, if someone else doesn't answer first, and I'm sure the other Keeper-ed women of the hut would be more than happy to answer anything I don't know -- not that I'm saying I know anywhere near everything about anything, merely offering what I do know...
in the meantime, happy menstruating? or something. :)

Got my first keeper and I can't wait to use it. I am having some problems inserting it but that might get better over time. Once it is in, the instructions told me to rotate it to make sure that it's unfolded. I've tried twisting the stem. I've tried gripping the base. Neither method has made the keeper rotate at all. I still feel a slight dimple in the base after insertion. Removal is also a slight problem. I'm having difficulty breaking the seal. Any suggestions?

as far as making sure it's unfolded, stick one finger to one side, as high as you can go while still touching the Keeper, and sorta push it in a clockwise/counterclockwise (whichever direction you like, lol) way... at least, that's what works for me -- trying to rotate it using the stem or the very bottom of the base doesn't work when it's all slippery and wet in there already...
breaking the seal -- use your thumb and finger to pinch the base of the thing so that it's sorta like it was when it was folded... then pull it out...

I'll have to try your rotating suggestion. It sounds a lot easier than what I've been doing.

As for pinching the base, that's not going to spill anything? It seems almost like refolding it and like the whole thing is going to just spill if the cup is too full.

don't pinch it hard enough to where you'd spill it out... though it's generally a good idea to remove it over a toilet or whatever, so that if something happens to make it spill, it won't be a big deal...
also, it gets a bit more flexible after you've used it a couple of times, so you won't always have to try so much to maneuver it...

ok now this keeper....it is like a cup or something?....It holds all of the menstrual blood (from what I've read) for up to 12 hours?.......Are you serious? How big is this cup?...I am a heavy bleeder...does the cup come in sizes?....lol I'm full of questions....sorry

yup, it's a rubber cup. it can last for 12 hours, but you might want to go a bit more often if you're bleeding heavily -- say, every 8 hours? It holds up to one ounce of fluid, which doesn't sound like a lot, until you realize most women only lose something like two tablespoons of blood each month (even though it seems like a lot more sometimes!)... it comes in two sizes, but they both hold the same -- size A is for women who've given vaginal childbirth, size B is for women who haven't.

But seriously, I have said it before and I'll reiterate it again...Before I started reading this community (just a day ago ) I thought there were only pads and tampons. Who knew. I'm learning a hell of a lot, and I just wanted to say thanks.

I was reading the site about the Keeper and wonder, do you have to lube it up a bit to get in? Sometimes I have problems with getting tampons in (I use ob so no applicator).

How far do you have to insert it? All the way up or just enough to where the tab isn't hanging out?

And my last one... do you have to sterilize them at the end (boil them or whatnot) until the next time?

I like the idea of having a reusable cup but have many questions! *grins*

I personally have never needed to use anything to make it go in, but from what I understand, some women do... I used ob's before I switched, and only rarely had problems getting those in (and usually only with the superplus ones), to give you a bit of perspective?
you don't have to get it all the way up (thank goodness, lol) -- just far enough where it's not hanging out of your body.
you don't have to boil it. just wash really well with antibacterial soap, rinse really well, and let it dry before you store it away for another month... :)

i've been thinking of getting a keeper since there's so much waste from anything other than cloth pads, but i was a little confused. i'm 15 and have a tiny cunt (i can barely insert super tampons, and wearing tampons that big hurts like hell). will i have problems getting it in?

honestly? if you have serious problems getting tampons in, then the Keeper might not be the best solution for you.
hoping someone who has a similar issue steps in to answer this question definitively...
