i'm wondering if this is just my cycle, just me, or just being 15...

lately i've been really depressed, and lonely... i know i'm clinically depressed, but this is worse than my usual... does anyone else get this?

depression exacerbated by pms? definitely. this is a time to pamper yourself and worship the tremendous power within you, your share of the Goddess herself, the ability to create and nurture life. drink red raspberry leaf tea (has to be made of the leaves, not the berries) and take hot candlelit bubblebaths and go for long walks with your favorite female artist singing in your ear. celebrate the powers of creation by making something or writing something or drawing something. don't give up. the undertow is inviting, but as long as you just keep going, life's momentum will pick up the ball.
blessings.

My PMS hormone swings were definitely worse when I was 15. I think partially because my cycle wasn't well-established, so I never knew when the down-swing was coming. I just kept reminding myself that I don't want to be a slave to my hormones, and slowly grew out of it.

I don't really have any good advice. Just... I've been there.

...it could be your cycle, yes. or it could not be. hormones can affect just about everything, including your mood. if over several months you notice your mood gets worse at a particular point in your cycle (pms, menstruation, ovulation, whatever) then that knowledge might be useful--it doesn't make your feelings any less "real" or "valid," but means you can say to yourself "take a deep breath, and it will probably seem a little better next week."

then again, it might not be related to your hormones. i was lucky--my mother is a psychiatric social worker (yes, a shrink :) and took me seriously--but even she had some problems with not seeing what she was scared to see. if you are hurting yourself, or thinking about hurting or killing yourself or others, or even if your depression is "just" getting in the way of life in general--talk to someone, talk to everyone until they take you seriously. i'm hoping that, since you mentioned casually that you experience depression, you already have? if not, *please* do. school counselors might be a good place to start--some are good, some are just dumb. there are also some really good hotlines (mom's recommended for me to give to friends in past, she got professional help for me and i never called them but they're recommended) that i might look up and post for anyone who might want them.

anyways, sorry for rambling and/or preaching! :) it just worries me that so many people, esp. young women, deal with depression and so much of the rest of the society writes it off as "teenage moodiness" and either ignores it or reacts in a hostile or chastising manner. *grr* it's real, it's a problem, and anyone who experiences it and is willing to help themselves deserves help from others too.

(*climbs off soapbox* :)

1) Being 15 is awful. Almost everyone I know agrees that this is true.
2) PMS makes depression worse.
3) Adolescent hormones make depression worse.
4) When I went ballistic with depression when I was 15, my sister bought me a pair of purple
dungarees. Funnily enough, it helped.
5) If your hormones are apeshit, chocolate might help or it might make it worse.
