Emm, this last period I recieved the worst cramps in my entire life. It was horrible. BEYOND horrible. I've had my period for like almost 4 years now and those were the worst cramps ever. My mum gave me a muscle relaxer and I sat in the bath for 6 hours literly. If I got out I started to hurt. It was strange.

When I was a teenager, I had cramps so bad I'd turn pale, get the shakes, throw up.

That's the thing about heat and cramps, for me. It feels a lot better when the heats on (the heating pad's there, the tub's hot, etc.) but they come back once the heat goes away.

If you're able to, try stretching a lot, yoga-style. When mine were that bad, it helped. It didn't stop the uterine cramping, but it helped the pain that can develop in the surrounding areas.

that can happen sometimes, at the onset of menstruationg the body produces prostoglandins that soften the cervix and cause the uterus to contract (a similar thing happens to start labor), it just seems that sometimes a lot more prostoglandins are produced. high levels of prostoglandins are also associated with other things that can happen with your period such as headaches/migraines, nausea and generally feeling shakey (I get that sometimes but not too badly, and usually just on the first day). I don't really know if there's much you can do to prevent this, but there are plenty of things to relieve the symptoms. I find that camomile tea helps with cramps, and taking plenty of b-vitamins prevents me from getting those menstrual headaches. Yoga can help prevent cramps too because it tones the internal organs (including the uterus) and it's thought that cramps are worse if the uterus has weak muscle tone.

I get super sever cramps as well. This is going to sound bad but when they get REALLY intense (as in I am tears) then if I drink some alcohol it tends to loosen them up some. My mom the doctor suggested it to me and it works pretty well. Also it helps me fall asleep so I can sleep through the night.

...was it just very severe cramping for one day? that could possibly have been a cyst or something un-lovely like that... if you're concerned, it's worth checking out. otherwise, i hope for your sake that it was a one-time-only bad deal, and not a pattern!
