are you using the slim ones? And are you pushing them up far enough? I find sometimes if they aren't up far enough they can get uncomfortable...

then your hymen (sp) isn't opened enough to take it. You must be a virgin, though some virgins have openings large enough to accecpt them. That is the thing that will be broken when you have sex for the first time.... anyway, maybe see a doctor and see if they can suggest anything. There is a solution (other than having sex).

Good luck!

thereeial super-slim ones for teens. They are what my sis had to use... have you tried them?

Plastic applicators and/or putting a bit of lubrication (petroleum jelly or something) on it might help. I know that I have problems inserting them sometimes because of dryness.

Better off with a water based lubricant, like KY -- petroleum based ones can give you yeast infections. I guess they trap stuff in or something?

Sounds reasonable. I suggested petroleum jelly mainly because it's probably less controversial for a teen to obtain, but you're probably right.

yeah, anything oil based sticks to the vaginal walls and clogs the pores in there which can cause infections, best to steer clear of oil based stuff. KY jelly is easy to purchased in large chemists, you generally find them in the same aisle as vaginal cleansing products, condoms, spermicide and all that. To avoid embarrasment I'd recomend asking an adult to buy it, but I don't think it's embarrassing to by KY, plenty of girls use it to help insert tampons (it even says on the tube that this is one of it's uses).

Good idea. . .I had no trouble getting one in when I was a virgin, but, oh this is humilitating but I COULD NOT GET IT OUT.

I had a strange hymen, it had extra tissue and instead of one round hole, I had 2 small ones, side by side. There was a piece of hymen that divided it up in two. So when the tampon swelled up, it couldn't come back out.

I had to get the sucker surgically removed. Both hymen AND tampon.

This after the school nurse and my mother both took turns trying to get it out. My gawd, that was the worst of it!

You know, this happened when I was in my early teens. 13 maybe? Which means it was just about 20 years ago.

I have been able to tell a select few people (like, oh, my husband) but this is the first time I was ever able to mention it publically and type it out.

So I guess it was a WEE bit traumatic!

Augh, that's horrible! I had to have my hymen surgically removed, as well, along with some scar tissue that had appeared from trying to force tampons into my body. Bad move. Lord, that thing was as thick as a horse's hoof... good riddance.!

I know that tampax makes a size called slender regular -- they're the same size as regulars, but squished up smaller, or some such. It might still hurt for you to pull those out, though.

The junior size that tampax makes is very tiny, but unless you're like me and have a very light flow, those will probably be problematic for you. Also, the junior size is very hard to find.

and, I agree with everyone else, try some KY. You can get it at the drugstore, it's very cheap, and if your mom finds it and thinks you're doing something you shouldn't be, you can point to the KY bottle itself, because that's one of the things KY says it's for on the bottle ^_^

I agree with what someone else said on here about the KY Jelly. Also, you might want to try playtex gentle glide tampons, They have a plastic applicator and it usually glides in easier. I remember when I first started using tampons I had a hell of a time using the cardboard applicators, It used to hurt SO much to insert them... but the plastic ones were much easier.
