Yes and no. If it is truly a menstrual period, then pregnancy will not occur. But not all bleeding is menstrual. In fact, many women will have midcycle bleeding around the time of ovulation. Bleeding can also occur due to polyps or cervical problems that can make you believe you are on a period, when the bleeding is actually due to another cause. You may think you are safe, but you are actually at a fertile time.
Bleeding that occurs 14 days after a rise in basal body temperature and immediately following the fall in temperature is likely menstrual and is a safe time for intercourse if you do not want to get pregnant.

Although it's rare...yes, you can. It's most likely when you have a woman who hasn't kept track of her cycles, or it relatively "new" at menstruating...this can happen when a woman comes off the pill for the first time, or has just started her menses. It can happen to normal women to though....some women ovulate right before they begin to menstruate do to several hormone problems.... therefore, they have sex thinking that it's safe, and wa-lah...they get pregnant!

Oh don't get me wrong...chances are you're fine!!! As I tell most people...your biggest fear from non-protected, menstrual sex is still the transmission of STD's. You're chances of getting pregnant are pretty small.

Is it too late to take the morning after pill just to be on the safe side?
Some women find that it makes them sick etc. but I've taken it once and was fine, just kind of tired.
I think if you have a regular cyle of about 28 days or more you should be ok, some women can ovulate while menstruating but that usually tends to happen if the woman has a very short cycle, or an irregular cycle.

I would be VERY interested in what that tonic contains. I have done loads of reading, but to have a few years of anecdotal info would be quite the assest to my reasearch.

Thanks a lot and don't worry too much, chances are you are fine.

It is entirely possible to conceive while menstruating; one ovary can be ovulating while the other has just caused you to menstruate.

the past comment from "albhe" is correct........
the chances are not all that great, but it can happen.
You can also become pregnant and continue to have a period for
months afterward.
If it hasnt been 72 hours yet, I would suggest the morning after pill if your really worried about it.
Also, there are a lot of early detection pregnancy tests on the market, that you could take well before your next period is due.
Good Luck!
