herbal contraception and abortifacients
Jan. 23rd, 2002 03:00 amThe comments under my last post got into herbal contraception and abortifacients so I thought you people might find this article interesting: http://www.nsnews.com/issues00/w112700/opinion/editorial/black.html.
It basically talks about the plans to make the modern day "morning after" pill accessible over the counter but it mentions Eve's herbs and Lydia Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. The article also mentions the book "Eve's Herbs: A History of Contraception and Abortion in the West" which looks very informative. A few of the book reviews made mentions of pennyroyal tea. Now that I know what pennyroyal tea is I find a Nirvana’s Lyrics all the more brilliant:
"Sit and drink pennyroyal tea
Distill the life that's inside of me
Sit and drink pennyroyal tea
I'm anemic royalty."
Hmm…interesting, eh?

Date: 2002-01-23 02:47 am (UTC)I know a whole bunch of herbs that work for that sort of thing. And Vitamin C as well, apparently, in huge, diarhea-inducing doses. (And black and blue cohosh, usually a combo of all 3.)
Is interesting though, but just want to make sure if anyone gets that idea, to make sure the tea is from the leaves with no oil as people DO die from injesting the oil.
A few websites out there with the proper doses of all. Can't just have a cuppa and call it a day. But I know that it works.

Date: 2002-01-23 04:51 am (UTC)The morning after pill is available over the counter in the UK, it costs £20 (which is a bit much for two pills!) but it's free if you get it from a doctor or family planning clinic.
I had to take it once, and I had to buy it from a chemist because I didn't want to wait until the next day when the family planning clinic would be open.
UGH!!! LYDIA PINKHAM!!!!
