Depends on the severity of your cramps. Vicodin is a drug that is usually prescribed for moderate-to-severe pain. And, it's more likely that you would get more relief from Toradol and/or 600mg Ibuprofen and/or Naprosyn instead; if the pain is truly from cramps. Vicodin simply interecepts the path of your neurotransmitters, causing relief from pain. Toradol/Naprosyn/Ibuprofen actually work on muscle tissue to relax it, causeing relief from pain.
I don't think any doctor, when confronted by a request for stronger painkillers, would start you off with vicodin. Opiates are really addictive, and they're controlled substances, os your doctor could probably get into trouble for overprescribing them to you. She would probably start you off with other, non-opiate prescription painkillers, and only if those didn't work well enough would she upgrade you to an opiate.
