Greetings, ladies. Today I entered the Red Tent. Now I am going to glorify and honor this blessed female body of mine. I want to go out under the moon tonight and bleed into the earth. In biblical days, there was a ritual of a girl's first menstruation. She'd enter the Red Tent with the other women who were Mooning, and after providing her with stories and sweets and massages the women would lead her out to the field, under the moon, and she would lay face down on the earth, giving back to Gaia, sharing the life and paying homage. I read about this in a wonderful wonderful book called THE RED TENT by Anita Diamant. I highly recommend it.

I have a daughter. And my daughter has two beautiful, strong, amazing, educated, intelligent, gentle, kind goddess aunts in her life. We will all celebrate together her first blood. We will drink red wine, smoke and relax, light candles and sit on the earth with the moon together. We will share stories be gentle and brutally honest and laugh with eachother.

I wanted to share this with you because of your response to the post. I hope this is okay. My way of saying it is nice to know there are women out there who see through the same eyes. =)

To think....

I gave my copy of Red Tent to a friend for a Christmas Present! I'll just have to go out and get another!

No, but I do now have a copy and it is in my list of things I will read. By the way, when my daughter entered into womanhood we had a grand celebration! We had already talked about what it meant physically. With 3 older brothers she knew a lot about the birds and bees as I have always made sure that my kids felt free to talk about these things.

Great Book!

I've read and re-read that book so many times, my copy is about worn out.
It's a book that reminds us what womanhood is really all about. .. the companionship, the traditions. . . and also gives us another "biblical" perspective of women which was much appreciated. . and I feel, needed.
