5-HTP

Based on the recommendations of many other hut folk, I'm taking 5-HTP. And I think we may be onto something. Thanks again for the info, and I'll keep you posted.

Is 5-HTP a precursor to serotonin? I've heard of women using Prozac (fluroxetine). Have you heard anything about this or given thought to it ?

yeah, 5-htp (5 hydroxytriptophan) is a precursor to seratonin and works in a similar way to SSRIs (prozack, zoloft etc.) but are much gentler on the body, from what I've read people have little or no side affects from 5-htp as opposed to SSRIs.

I recomend you inestigate how you should take 5-htp with st john's wort (dosage, times etc.), plenty of people do take them together, but it can be considered overkill. I guess it depends on how severe your problem is, have a look on the net, I'm sure you'll find plenty of info :)

Good luck :) I tried 5-htp for a little while, but it upset my stomach and made me drowsy so I stopped. I'm sticking to the st john's wort, dong quai and vitamins etc. for now, I did think of maybe trying the 5-htp in the evenings rather than mornings, but I feel ok now with what I'm taking, so my general philosophy is if it ain broke, don't fix it heh
but as I said, good luck, I've heard plenty of people say many wonderful things about 5-htp!
