ok, I've been bleeding for 18 days, since I usually bleed for 7-8 days this is very odd.

My period didn't follow its normal pattern because it was very light for about 4 days, then went heavy for another 4 days or so, and since then has been a consistent medium flow. But it only just dawned on me how long its been and how unusual this is!
I guess I haven't noticed it much because of my keeper, and the fact that I've had much less pain than I usually get with my period.

I'm not on b/c pills or any medication, I have an IUD, which caused me to bleed for longer at first, but that settled down, and the extra bleeding was also associated with more cramps which I don't have this time.

Its very odd. I would make an appointment to see my doc, but it takes ages to get seen in the area I live in.

If it weren't for my keeper this mega long period would be very annoying!

Any ideas? suggestions? similar instances?

I am very irregular, and would not bleed for months on end, and then just a bit.

I would only go to the doctor if something like what happened to you happened to me. (That is if I would bleed for an ungodly length of time.)

For me, it was just cysts. For you? I can only guess. But I would at least want to phone the Dr, because I would just HATE to bleed that long.

I've had it happen, even with b/c. Stress, losing/gaining weight all might be a factor. But I'd see your GYN anyways.... mine gave me a pregnancy test, just to be sure. :)

18 days?!
Assuming you've never had a period this extended... definitely, definitely seek medical attention of some sort. Not to be an alarmist or anything, but bleeding for that long could be a sign of something serious, especially if it's never happened before...

It's still out there, the IUD, in fact they have new kinds and I think they are releasing yet another variation on it soon-ish.

There are some brochures for it at the midwife's office. I want one but I am afraid of cramping.

Oh man. I hate to think what I'd be like with an 18 day period. Bitchy doesn't even begin to describe it.
Kudos to you for remaining sane through it!
