Dong Quai is mainly known as a herb which helps resolve menstrual problems, but a less known property it has is to help nourish the blood. I used Dong Quai to help with a bout of anemia (caused by heavy periods) I had several months ago, and it worked very well (within two weeks) I take it every day now, it also helps reduce pre-menstrual syndrome.

here's a snippet about how Dong Quai can help the blood:

"*Nourish body fluids, counter fatigue, and lower blood pressure. As a rich source of vitamin B12, dong quai may play a role in stimulating red blood cell production. It may therefore indirectly boost energy and lessen fatigue by increasing the number of red blood cells transporting oxygen throughout the body. When used in conjunction with other herbs, dong quai also mildly dilates blood vessels, facilitating the heart's pumping ability and possibly lowering blood pressure as a result. Chinese doctors have long prescribed the herb for high blood pressure and circulatory problems."

I think you have some wrong ideas about anemia.

Anemia is the condition caused by iron deficieny. It's not caused by B-12 deficiency or by "constricted blood vessels". The issue is that you need iron to produce blood, and if you don't have enough, you won't have enough blood. Because women need to produce extra blood monthly, we are prone to iron deficiency.

Taking a bunch of a product that contains B-12 won't help you produce more blood if you don't have sufficient iron to produce it with.

If you want to prevent/cure anemia, all you need to do is take iron pills on a regular basis. Iron is difficult for your body to absorb, so if you don't eat a lot of meat, taking iron pills is a good idea.
