this has probably been asked before, but i dont always get to come look around in here...
my friend decided that she wants to do everything naturally/herbal like instead of pumping her body full of drugs. (personally if drugs will help me out in the long run, i'm all for them!) well she has a yeast infection and i told her about the yogurt thing. (i am right about the plain yogurt right? i hope so otherwise i'm in trouble with her!)
are there any other things she can do? her mom told her to soak in a warm bath with a little vinager added to the water. is that a good idea? i never had a yeast infection *knocks on wood* so i dont know.
any help or suggestions for her would be helpful.
thanks!

Plain yogurt should work, but it's really messy. Tell her to get acidophilous tablets (found at any health food store in the refridgerator section) and insert one twice a day (when she wakes up and when she goes to bed) as far as she can into herself with clean hands. Use for one day after your symptoms go away, usually takes 3-4 days. It's not quite as cheap as yogurt, but a lot easier and less messy. I've done it before, so I can assure it works. If it's a really bad yeast infection, tell her to get some tea tree oil and mix just a little in with some plain yogurt and apply that to her vulva, because it relieves the pain and itchiness.

i know a weak vinegar/water douche can help. (one of the few times they can--douches are often very not-good)

your friend should also know that vaginal infections aren't all yeast--can also be bacterial, etc, in which case treatments for yeast infections won't help. if she hasn't had a yeast infection before, she really should consider going to a doc to get it diagnosed--that way she at least knows she's on the right track, even if she doesn't choose to fill any prescription she's given.

also, you might check out the lj community vaginapagina for a lot of info on this question!

1/2 to 1 cup of vinigar in the bath will help a lot.... so will yogurt (tampon dipped in, eaten, or the asidpholous tablets) helps too... best of luck!

yeah, it really is!!! When I was poorer than shit (in college) I used a lot of yogurt that way, lol!!! It sooths the itch/burn and does help heal, so it is good. My grandma was a nurse in the Deep South during the great depression and relied lots on home remedies... found those that did and didn't work, then passed the best on to me!!!!

I *think* the vinegar should be cider vinegar. I could be way off base with this.

I hate yeast infections enough that I get regular meds for them.

Chamomile tea bags steeped in hot water and the applied to the area (the tea bag not the water) helps relieve the itch of a yeast infection. I believe it also helps it heal faster.
