So I got my first UTI nearly a year ago... I waited ten days before I went to the doctor... they were shocked, the nurse pitied me and looked at me in some strange awe, like she couldnt understand how i could live with the pain that long.
I had done some research on the 'net about UTI's when I suspected I had one.. and as much as I would love to self medicate, I get seriously concerned when things could be serious...
I love herbs, I love not having to go to the doctor, but when I hear that I could get a kidney infection.. which could really mess things up... I run to the doctor.
I shoudlnt say run though... more like.. allowed my mother to drag me to the doctor.

Now I seem to have another.. and this time it is accompanied by some pretty severe vaginal itching.
I got a bottle of Cranberry Concentrate.. and my uti symptoms seem to be fading a bit.. but the itching is still persisting. My friend says it sounds like a yeast infection.....
I bought some over the counter stuff for that.. and figure I will try it out and see how it goes...
I really do not want to go to the doctor...
1. I dont like antibiotics unless i am certain that I need them.
2. I really cant afford to go to the doctor.

I am thinking that I should call into work today.. cause not being able to run to the bathroom every 20 minutes sounds like it could be very uncomfortable.

um... if you're still running to the bathroom every 20 minutes, that sounds like UTI stuff. a decent doctor should be able to talk with you about not wanting to take antibiotics unless they're necessary... but sometimes they are necessarily. you might check into clinics in the area that are sliding-fee (charge what you can pay)... don't know if planned parenthood does stuff like that, but county health clinics or the like might be able to, depending on where you live. anyhow, hope you feel better!

i had a UTI, and then the medication i was on for it gave me a yeast infection, which meant more prescriptions and more pain and more time out of school.

damn.

I believe there is an over the counter medication for UTI but I don't know how effective it is.

slippery elm in capsels and vitamin C....my homopathic Dr. put me on it when I had a UTI, also lots of asodophilius (spelling?)for yeast......my dr. also had me insert caps. of it into my vigina at night time...hope this is helpful...there was some good stuff about boric acid and yeast on viginapigina about a week ago.
