I'm on Alesse, and skipping Placebo pills to skip my period. This is my first month on Alesse and skipping placebo. I've got 8 more pills until I get to the Placebo in this pack, which I'm supposed to skip and go on to the hormone pills of the next pack.

I JUST got my period, unexpectedly. I haven't taken the placebo week at all last month, I went straight to the hormones of this month.

Is this break through bleeding or something I should contact my doctor about? She told me to allow myself to get my period every three months, which isn't until April. I shouldn't be having any menses until then.

Should I be worried, or not?

Its totally normal to get breakthrough bleeding if you don't take the placebo, especially if you are a bleed-every-month kind of woman. If you keep on taking the pills, you may get on a three-month cycle. Or not. Depends on your body, the pill you are on, etc.

yeah, some people do bleed heavily while they're getting used to it (in my experience working at women's clinics for over two years). You may want to see if your period subsides in the next week or so. If this problem continues, you'll want to switch doses or go back to monthly cycles, of course. Have you been on pills before? Your situation may be more difficult because you're body is getting used to pills AND bleeding every three months.

I skipped the placebo pills my first month on birth control (my period would have happened at a very inconveniant time). I started bleeding about a week and a half into the second pack, I did some reading about it. It seems that you aren't supposed to skip the placebos until you've been taking them as directed for several months. I don't think it's actually harmful...just that you won't get the expected results.

My bleeding wasn't as heavy as my heaviest flow days, but heavier than spotting. About as heavy as the last few days of a normal period. I continued bleeding through the rest of that pack. I seem to be back to normal this month, though (thankfully!).

It would probably be worth mentioning to your doctor, at the very least for your peace of mind. It might also help to not start skipping the placebos for a few months.

Definitely call your dr. this could be a bad reaction to the pills, or a serious problem.

How is skipping periods affecting you? Some women here say that they feel bloated and nasty as soon as they skip the first one, and it lasts until they actually menstruate. Is that the case with you? I'm curious because my dr has suggested the same treatment.

could it possibly be from swtiching brands then? Alesse is a much lower dose than the Ortho pills (reason I'm on Alesse now).

this is just pure speculation, though.
