Okay...

I had my period from 1/23 to 1/27.

I got a yeast infection on 1/30 (by the by, does anyone know if yeast infections can be caused by an allergy to latex? sex seems to be the link between most of my yeast infections).

Yesterday (2/5), I started having unpleasant twinges in my tummy. I thought "that feels like cramps, but it couldn't be... It's probably just too much onion dip..." Last night, I started bleeding lightly. I've been spotting and cramping slightly all day.

I'm not on birth control pills. The only medication I've taken lately have been herbal PMS remedy, OTC painkillers, and that oh-so-lovely Monistat.

In your humble opinions, is this an "oh, that's not a big problem" sort of thing, or an "oh my god, go to the hospital!" sort of thing?

mild allergy to latex can totally cause bad yeast infections. that's what it does to me. i generally don't use condoms anymore, or when i do it's always the non-latex condoms. i still get yeast infections every once in a while, but no longer is it traceable back to sex.

as far as yeast infection stuff, you might want to try curing yourself with acidophilous pills instead of monistat. monistat is nasty, expensive, and well, really nasty. (to cure a yeast infection, insert one acidophilous pill in your vagina with clean hands twice a day for one day longer than your symptoms last. should take 3-4 days.)

anyways, i don't think you need to worry too much about the bleeding. sounds relatively normal, compared to a lot of the horror stories in this community. might want to call an advice nurse if the option is available to you.

Avanti is one brand of non-latex condems (made by Durex). They're more expensive, but it might be worth it to get a box to try. As an added bonus, they apparently feel better for the guy (better heat transmission or something).

There are other brands as well. Avanti is simply the one I've had experience with.

Men can carry yeast infections but because of their different bits, don't notice it.

So maybe its the condom, or maybe its just that he has it and hasnt gotten rid of it. Really both partners should be treated when there is a yeast infection.

as for yeast infections... I get them from over-use of spermacidal lubricant... my Dr said the irritation on the vaginal walls makes me more prone... I stopped using latex and had fewer infections, now just to find a brand of polyurithaine that comes w/o spermicidal lube!

I don't know about latex allergies causing yeast infections, but I do know that having sex with someone with a yeast infection can cause yeast infections. Just a thought.
As far as the spotting goes -- ever had anything like that happen before? I wouldn't worry nearly so much about what's normal for everyone else as what's normal for you. If it's never happened to you before, you might call a nurse and see what s/he has to say about it...

The same thing happened to me. Condoms constantly gave me yeast infections. You could have a mild latex allergy. Then again you could also be having issues with the spermicide/lubricant the condoms have. Try switching brands, that might help a little.

I've got the latex allergy. I use Avanti condoms with my husband. They don't have any latex in them and he likes them a lot better than the latex condoms.

As for cures.. how about an ounce of prevention? I take acidopholus tablets daily. It's only two a day, and I'll do just about anything to keep from having that pain of a yeast infection. Even when I DO get a yeast infection, if I hop on the acidopholus (again, by mouth...) it usually subsides within a day or so.

For what it's worth, my GYN diagnosed my first yeast infection. After the initial one, she'd just ask if they were the same symptoms that I had with my last one. When infection number 3 arose, we discussed acidopholus. SHe agreed it was better than having to take meds all the time. She also pointed out that yogurt has acidopholus as well. I try to eat a yogurt a day and then if I feel a twinge coming on, I'll start taking my tablets...

Hope this helps! :)

I'm having trouble remembering the names of these things... but a friend of mine uses an alternative to latex (polyurethane?), and got irritation because the lube she was using was made out of some of the same stuff. So if you do switch to latex alternatives, check the ingredient list of whatever lube you use (if any).
