Just a question...
Feb. 9th, 2002 11:47 pmI don't post in this community often but I read it daily, and everyone around the hut says they're not regular, never have been until they went on the pill etc...
So my question is am I in the minority when I saw I have been regular from the time I started my period when I was 11? I started it skipped 2 months, had it again and have been regular ever since, and i've never been on meds. I even know the time of day my period will start. Like one month I know it's going to start overnight and then the next month it'll start during the day when I'm in school, and then the next month it'll be overnight etc..
The only problem I have with my period is sometimes a heavy flow and usually every third or fourth month I get killer cramps, (see I even know when my cramp are going to be the worst lol)

Date: 2002-02-09 07:48 pm (UTC)I was meaning to post this a while ago: I get irritated when people's first response any time I have a complaint about my period is "You should go on the Pill." For God's sake, I don't want to. I take enough medicines as it is, forgive me for not wanting to add one more.
Plus, it just seems odd to me to play with my hormones if I don't have to. Women have operated just fine for a long time now without the Pill, and I don't see a reason to go on it -- for menstrual control or for birth control -- if I don't really, really want to.

Date: 2002-02-10 09:58 am (UTC)For girls who have some significant problems with their periods, going on the Pill can be such an amazing experience, that it's hard to not want to recommend it.
As for me, I'm on the Pill for birth control reasons -- I'm in a long-term relationship, sex with condoms is ouchy, and I'm too paranoid to use any birth control with a higher failure rate than the Pill, anyway. My period was far less troublesome that some of the horror stories I read about on here, but even so, I used to get awful, nasty cramps which could only be conquered by opiates -- and the trouble with opiates is that those render me about as useless as the pain does.
But now that I'm on the Pill, I hardly ever get cramps at all, and I never have to spend a day or two every month queasy from the only things that can make me stop hurting. Though that wasn't the reason I went on the Pill, it's a great side benefit. Also, as another side benefit I'm extremely regular.
I've also experienced first hand some of the nasty side effects of messing with your hormones, and I don't usually advise people to go on the Pill without also warning them of the ways it can mess with your mind and your moods. But if you can find a Pill that's right for you, the results can be so great that it's hard to not want that for every one of my sisters that I see in pain.

Date: 2002-02-11 08:22 am (UTC)I really don't want to be on hormonal birth control right now. Everything seems to be working fine (and I say this while in the hut), I don't want to potentially complicate my innards-- both physically and mentally. My college roomie had trouble with her depression and her birth control.
