I'm having a problem with my periods which is actually nothing new for me, but I just need to feel like I'm not the only one. So, I'm posting this for two reasons. 1-to see if I'm alone or if this is normal 2-to find out if I may have a problem.

I have always had irregular periods, but lately they have been getting worse. I have been bleeding for weeks or even months at a time. I haven't really been skipping periods either, which makes this even more annoying. I have bleed for a few weeks, then stopped for 3 weeks and then bleed for a month.

My last period lasted about 3 weeks and then I stopped, or so I thought. I went about two days without doing anything, but then I started spotting. I spotted very randomly for about a week and then I started heavy flow again.

This morning I woke up in a pool of liquid, and I thought I was going to have a huge mess of blood. Oddly enough it wasn't blood. It was more like a mixture of blood and some other liquid. I had been to the bathroom about two hours earlier, so this happened some time between then and when I woke up. This actually is worrying me, because it has never happened to me before? Has anyone else ever experienced a problem like this?

Also, as a side note. I have been told that my irregular periods are probably due to my obesity. I have noticed that when I am exercising regularly I have more regular periods.

i used to get irregular periods that lasted for weeks and then wouldn't come for months.

when i hit 16 i decided i wanted to go on the pill, because the periods were getting heavier and heavier and painful.

is the pill an option for you? now my periods are regular and i only get a little cramping and bleed for only about 5 days.

well, it takes a LOT of extra weight to cause that kind of trouble... I am over 100lbs overweight, and I bleed fine and regular... though I am a big person and can carry it o.k...

but if you are that concerned, I would go to your local planned parenthood or another free clinic and get checked out.

do you have menstrual pain? and are you on the shot or anything like that? (depo-provera)... if you have pain, etc, and even if you don't, you might check out the endometriosis community: http://www.livejournal.com/community/endometriosis and see if you match up with stuff there (also, ask your doctor! s/he can tell you better what's up with your body, if s/he has been working with you for awhile)

... as for discharge that is only partially blood, what was the rest? mucus-y stuff? tissue? is there any chance that it could be a misscarriage? (hate to bring up scary stuff....) anyhow, i hope stuff evens itself out!

it doesn't matter so much what's "normal" for other women, as what's normal for your body.
however, if you haven't sought medical attention for months-long periods before, i would highly recommend doing so.

wow.. i am going through the exact same thing right now. i've been stressing about it for weeks.. even though i've had irregular periods ever since i started getting em when i was 12, it's just been getting worse. my scenerio - i hadn't had my period for 5 months and i finally get it a few days before xmas.. i was real heavy for 11 days straight and i stop having it for a few days and then i get it AGAIN.. so i've been bleeding now, non-stop (mostly just spotting, also lots of blood clotting) since the beginning of january, really since xmas except for the few days off. i've been very moody ever since and all i seem to want to do is sleep. i have absolutely no energy. i finally got up enough nerve to go to the health dept. yesterday and they scheduled an appointment for me to come in and get checked out next week. i've been told everything from it could just be my hormones being screwed up to maybe i have cancer. i highly doubt it's cancer since i've always had irregular periods but this time seems to be the worst. i've also recently gained a lot of weight and i drink heavily.. those also could be factors. i hope you get checked out soon. let me know what happens.
