i kinda want to get a labial piercing when i'm old enough, but i'd like to talk to someone who has one first, so i don't make some horrible mistake and end up infertile or dead. so... does anyone here have one? anything i should know about them? any links i should see?

There are a bunch of experiences (ranging from people who got it done at respectable piercers and "so like i got drunk and my friend pierced me with a safety pin" at bmezine.com. (I'm not sure what picture's on the main page today, but it's probably something...interesting.)

I'm pretty sure you can't end up infertile, and if you go to a clean piercer and cope with any infections before they end up spreading to your brain, you're going to have a really hard time dying :)

as with all piercings there is a chance that something could go wrong.

nerves and blood vessles run in different patterns in everyone. there is always a chance that a nerve or blood vessle can be hit during the piercing causing numbness. otherwords there is a chance, even though its a small one that you can lose feeling in that whole/most of that area. just like theres a chance you can lose feeling in your face from a eyebrow piercing or your nipple with a nipple piercing.

these piercings are also not invincable either. i have a friend that got 2 labia piercings and her clit ring ripped out from falling off a jet ski when she was hit by another person.

all things to take in consideration. these are also a few of the reasons that you have to sign consent forms signing you rights away when you get tattoos or piercings.

[livejournal.com profile] guppygrrl knows a lot about genital piercings, you might ask her. :) Something to keep in mind is that for awhile the piercing will be the equivalent of an open wound-- so you'll want to keep it as clean as possible of sexual fluids. There's also a huge range of genital piercings-- I'd look some up for you but I can't search cool sites like that from work, we have some sort of "net nanny" on.

I wanted a labia piercing, but decided to go with a horizontal hood piercing instead (I like symmetry). I think it was about 2.5 years ago, I can't quite remember. But I *love* it. I've had a lot of piercings, some repeatedly, and this was the least painful and fastest-healing one I had. It's the only hole I've never had a problem with. I don't know how much of that holds true for labia, esp. since the hood is so thin (hence, I would think, easy to heal) but I was concerned that the constant warmth and moisture would impede healing and it didn't.

Assuming you're healthy and hygenic, any properly-done piercing should heal right if you follow your piercer's instructions.

I have a horizontal hood piercing and have had no problems with it. I read a lot of the stories on http://www.bme.freeq.com/ and they were very helpful. I did sea salt water soaks for aftercare.
