after the day i've had, i'm *strongly* considering buying a keeper.

thing is, it just.. i don't know. i've got the whole "i'm supposed to stick that WHERE?" thing going on...(and i shouldn't, i've been wearing tampons since my very first period, and never had a problem with them....but the keeper looks a lot bigger than a tampon)

anyways, i'm getting off on a tangent.. has anyone ever had any *bad* experiences with the keeper?

My keeper leaks a little, even when I should have a good seal. For me, it's about the equivalent of a tampon: good, but I still have to have a backup pad.

Also, I sometimes get massive clotting on heavy days, which can overflow the keeper very, very quickly, in such a way that not getting to a bathroom immediately would be disastrous.

Other than those two things, I love the keeper!

I did for the last eight years. Am on hiatus right now. The icon is me at the 2000 Head of the Charles.

A good page to look at would be http://www.mum.org/CupComm.htm (http://www.mum.org/CupComm.htm). This site has a lot of comments about various menstrual cups (mostly Instead and The Keeper). I haven't tried The Keeper, but a lot of the comments about Instead seem to accuratly describe my experience, so I'd assume that comments about The Keeper would be similarly accurate.

Graphic comment, be warned

The first time I used the keeper, I didn't have any leakage at all. I quickly got the hang of inserting it and went totally nuts over it, I tossed my tampons and my pantyliners. Big mistake. This period I accidently allowed the keeper to over fill. I had a heavy day and it leaked pretty bad. The rest of this falls under the category of way way too much information just as a warning I had had sex the day before. My boyfriend and I have been together 5 years and we do not use condoms. When I removed the keeper, the pull tab was very slippery because of the blood leakage. It slipped right out of my fingers, bounced on the toilet seat and fell to the tiled bathroom floor and rolled halfway across the room. The blood in the cup had mixed with the semen backflow and instead of being liquidy had become almost like nasty bloody mucus. It was almost impossible to clean up. Hence that is my only bad experience with the keeper. I apologize for its graphic nature.

That sounds both awful and like something I'd laugh at a lot, if it happened to me. Awh, I'm sorry though. I have my own interesting & also over-graphic story about semen backflow + blood cleanup... but we'll save THAT for another day.

other than my experience two days ago (as outlined in this entry (http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?itemid=23775241)), i have nothing but praise for the keeper.
if you have extreme sensitivity/pain behind or in front of your vagina while you're on your period, the keeper could aggravate that by putting pressure on those areas. although, even with all of that, the keeper has normally been just fine for me, except on the really horrid days (again, see that entry, lol)...
i'm still just so amazed that i don't have to try to carry 500 tampons with me while i'm bleeding. :D
