i'm real nervous about my health right now. i've been having my period non-stop since a few days before xmas.. i've always been irregular but this is the worst it's ever been. some days it's real heavy and other days it's just spotting but i've been bleeding for over 2 months now. this has made me real weak and i sleep on and off throughout the day. when i wake up my heart hurts like it's bruised. i'm not sure if that is because of what is going on with my period or if it's a seperate problem. i'm real concerned because there is no way i can go see a doctor right now becasue both my husband and i are unemployed and don't have any health insurance. i'm not sure what to do.

Planned Parenthood.
go. now. call, find the nearest one, ride the bus there, get a ride from someone, do whatever you need to do -- but bleeding for two months when that's never happened before, cannot be a sign of anything good.

Do you have a local sliding-scale clinic? Planned Parenthood? County health?

if nothing else, a few basic things to look at in your lifestyle: how is your water intake, your stress level, and how much physical activity do you get? you should be drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day, and yes, this will help. (get a 1.5 litre water bottle and refill it so you drink a whole one every day.) for stress, if you're both unemployed, it's probably not so good. try meditation. as for physical activity, start walking. when unemployed (hey, me too, so i know) it's really easy to just sit home and stay there and not go anywhere. instead, walk around the block a couple of times every day. this will get you out in the sun, etc. this may not fix it, but it sure won't hurt, and will be a step in the right direction.

May I ask what your weight is? Problems like this can be influenced by your body weight, if you are too high or too low. Also, what are you eating? Cut down on sugars and fats (sugar is worse, imo).

As far as your energy to do stuff, I know it's surreal, but when I actually force myself to get out of the house and do stuff, once I'm there, I get ten times more energy. When I make myself leave the house and go work out, even if I sit in the gym parking lot thinking "I don't want to do this!", by the time I'm done, I feel energized and wonderful. So, force yourself to get out. After you do it a few times, you'll really see a difference on how you feel afterwards, even if you totally didn't want to go in the beginning.

I mean, these are just basic 'getting healthy' things to do, but they do help. I had some weird menstrual issues (really long time between periods) a couple of years ago that totally resolved themselves when I changed my diet, started working out, and drank enough water.

Still, I can't emphasize enough that you should follow the other suggestions on contacting Planned Parenthood. They have low and no cost services for people who are unemployed and low-income, so you shouldn't have to sit around without medical attention.

I agree that you have a serious problem here, and reccomend Planned Parenthood as well. But I couldn't help wondering--if you're both unemployed and without health insurance, how can you afford to pay for an ISP every month??

Along with getting help ASAP, go to www.obgyn.net and post a question in the women's forum. They have doctor's there that donate their time and answer quesitons that you have. But, I would suggest getting help at Planned Parenthood, hospital ASAP!!!
