I apologize if this is way far off topic because it really doesn't have anything to do with menses or women's health.

I recently stopped shaving out of 100% laziness and a bit of curiosity. I started wondering how many women out there shave? If you've chosen not to shave, why?

I shave because I can't stand the feeling of hairy legs. When I get really lazy, I won't even let my legs touch.

I like smoothness more than fuzziness, personally. :) It's just more comfortable.

It depends on what shaving we're talking about?

I only shave my legs when they're going to be showed off anywhere.. and since my fiance is 1400 miles away for a couple more months and I live alone, and it's been cold... I haven't shaved the legs in a while. Underarms always get the shave. Pubic.. well.. I can't handle the irritation when it starts to grow back, and it's impossible to keep up with it so well that it never even gets as far as being irritating. I itch just thinking about it.

I notice that personal hygeine is easier with shaven armpits. If you get sweaty, it's not as much and deodorant works better without underarm hair.

I agree. And in the summer it helps to have shaved legs when it's hot outside!

The main reason I shave my underarms is because I have noticed that hair holds odor longer than skin (which is why perfume in your hair is such a great trick), so I shave partly so I use less deodorant to reach my actual skin, and partly so if I do start to perspire, it evaporates faster and the scent doesn't linger. I only shave my legs when I feel like it, usually if I am planningon wearing a short skirt. pants or long skirts? forget about it :p too much work. shaved teh pubic area once, and oh my *god* did it drive me nucking futz when it grew back in because I didn't feel like shaving that every darned day!

Watch out though, if you have dry hair, since the alcohol in perfume can make your hair even dryer. Though I guess it's okay in moderation. :-)

Sometimes I have to shave my legs, even though I wear long pants/skirts for the most part, because the fine hairs help create static cling. But I usually keep my underarms shaved-- it helps reduce smell/moisture clinging, and I don't like the itchy feeling of stubblies. Maybe if I let it grow longer it wouldn't itch as much.

i shave my legs and under the arms. i can't stand having hair there, it just bothers me. i do it for myself, and not anyone else.

I shave my armpits. I have a fun fun allergy to my own sweat, so if I don't wear deoderant, I get these nasty red itchy rashes under my arms. Accordingly, since hair traps sweat, I shave. I don't care what it looks like so much, though, so I shave my underarms maybe once every couple of weeks.

I also shave the two nasty little patches of hair I get on my chin. I think all women get a couple of thick black hairs on their chin, but I'm too much of a wimp for plucking or waxing, so shaving it is. I do that every couple of days.

Otherwise, I don't shave at all. My hair grows really quickly, so if I want my legs to be smooth, I'd have to shave every day. I'm pretty bad at shaving (still have scars from 9 years ago), so it's generally not the best idea. Since I really hate stubble, I'd rather just not shave and have long soft hairs than shave every few days and feel like a brillo pad. As far as the pubic region, I've shaved it a couple of times. It's nice when it's smooth, but the thing is, it's a major major turn on for someone to play with some of the fine hairs on the labia for me, so to shave them off, I lose out. Also, I would never ever shave the whole thing because it reminds me of being five years old when my vagina was weird and damp and icky, and seeing grown women who are totally shaved just makes me think of children, and ...yuck.

i don't shave anything. i'm too lazy. but that's not really it, it's because i have better uses for my time. if i have to choose between saving the world and shaving, i'm not going to shave. and i get really bad rashes when i shave my armpits.

woo hoo ! HAIRRRRRRR

Ok.
I stopped shaving my pits for life about 3 years ago, because I hated the prickly, flat top underarms....
I have stopped shaving my legs for about 2 months now and I am getting used to it.
I do not shave because I feel more like a woman this way and I feel sexier, more primal and it feels good.
I like the extra time I have in the shower to think or other things....
I am still getting used to leg hair....
I scrub my pits extra good and I have no smell issues, but I like my personal musk anyway.

i shave my pits maybe once a month.. and my legs get shaved if they're lucky, maybe 2-3 times a year (if something comes up like having to go get a full physical). i'm with everyone else on the 'lazy' bit... i never wear shorts or skirts so why bother?

I shave my pits because otherwise no amount of cleaning and deoderant would keep them fresh all day (don't know why, but I have needed regular-strength deoderant since the 3rd grade - as long as I use it, I'm fine, though).
I shave my legs as often as I can without the skin getting irritated. got pretty sensitive skin, though, so it really only ends up being once every couple of weeks.
do not shave the pubic area. I trim it neatly, but no shaving for me - I find it creepy and prepubescent. plus, I like the feeling of the hair and when it gets touched/brushed up against. and frankly, I think it's more flattering and sexy to have that patch of hair.

I shave underarms and legs just becuase I like them better that way.. I'm not religious about it, specially in winter, but do it often enough that I'm not faced with a "briar patch" come summer :)

Pubic area, I shave; frankly, I have no opinion at all about it, and my SO prefers it shaved; he'd never tell me what to do, but I figure: if I have no opinion, and he has one, why not be nice to him? *grin* Brownie points, y'know....

i used to not shave my underarms, and i never had a problem with excessive odor, or even a change.

i don't often shave my legs, just cause im lazy too. i'll shave about once a month, just cause it surprises my boifriend.

and the only time that i don't shave my pubic region is when im on my rag. otherwise all the time.

i don't care much for shaving, i just let it do what it wants.
i call my under-arms 'french under-arms'. heheheh

i told a boy a few months back 'yo it's winter, ze legs have ze hair', and he was totally grossed out, this coming from some art student, PC, "women's rights are cool" kid. i told him he better blommin' get used to it...

I don't shave my legs during the winter much, but when I rarely wear clothing that shows off my legs in the summer I do shave them. I shave underneath my arms every time they get hairy. I cannot stand hair underneath there.
