My period started today after a week of spotting and I am not a happy camper.

My period has been weird these last couple months- during my last week of active pills (dark blue, because I take Ortho Tri-Cyclen) I have a lot of spotting and a little bit of cramps, and my period typically starts with 3 or 4 days of the dark blue pills left. Is this anything I should be concerned about, should I talk to my doctor, etc? And does it mean that the pills pregnancy protection factor isn't working? I'm not horribly concerned over that, because I take them for my horrible cramps and I'm not having sex... but still.

Your period shouldn't be starting before you start taking the green pills.

i normally don't start until i'm into the 4th or 5th green pill....i suggest calling up yr doc because i think yr not supposed to get yr period until yr on the green ones, but i don't want to spread misinformation.
