i sometimes get infected and/or ingrown hair follicles on my mons. they get really hot, red, swollen and tender. the only way i can take care of them is to pull the hairs out of that particular follicle with a pair of tweezers. (that sounds painful, but doesn't hurt at all compared to the horrible stabbing, pinching pain that touching the bump causes.) i used to get these every couple of months, but then i started shaving all of my hair off down there. i shaved religiously every day and didn't get a bump for several years while i did this. back in January i stopped shaving everything, and now this. does anyone else suffer from this, and what if anything can be done to prevent them besides shaving? also, i have more than one hair growing out of each of my follicles, but only on my genital area. could that be what's causing it?

I have the same problem and the only thing that has really ever worked for me is (this is painful too) either waxing,Tend Skin or an eppilator. Waxing can be really tricky to do on your own, but you would only have to do it once every few weeks. Tend Skin is an expensive astringent type stuff that burns like hell but will not give you the ingrown hairs and bumps. Last but certainly not least is an eppilator. An eppilator hurts like hell to be perfectly honest, but it rips the hair right out of the follicle. They are like 40 bucks but you will have to do it at most once a month. I have recently started doing it and although it does hurt, I am getting used to it.

Funny, my problem was the exact opposite. I shaved (because i thought i was gross because i was hairy, and so on...) and i was quite sorry. Ingrowns EVERYWHERE! i stupidly shaved my labia too....ouchie. When it grew back i had some ingrowns for a bit as well. I also got ingrowns when i quit shaving my legs but they stopped. However, i have never found shaving to make ingrowns stop. THey usually are caused by shaving, for me. Maybey you should visit a dermatologist. Also it's entirely normal to have follicles with "roommates" growing in them.

Before you order the Tendskin, you might just try swabbing with rubbing alcohol first. Very carefully, with a q-tip or something. That works for some people, and is a LOT cheaper.

TRy using this..

I had you rproblem until I started using a scrub to, well scrub off the skin cells that clump and make these hairs ingrown... it helped lots, just any scrub, like St .Yves peach scrub, or whatever.. not very expensive, I do it in the shower and It helps alot..

not that you have to do this, but...

i don't shave things bald down there, but i do trim my hair very short...using a beard trimmer. i know that sounds weird, but if you have any guys in the house, they may have one already! that way i get the comfyness of having it nice and short, but minus the pain that comes with shaving (which, as mentioned above, comes in all sorts!) good luck!
