a few points I find very disgusting:

-having sex while having your period
-having lots of pubic hair & not washing your genitals frequently enough during "that time of month"
-not refreshing your "diaper" often enough to prevent a nasty smell
-leaking trough your pants

ie; I'm not too fond of having my period .at.all.
so I often take my birth control pill a few months non-stop, so I won-t have to deal with that bloody mess. *shakes head* and no, I don't ever want kids.

I change my pad about 5 times a day when I'm bleeding, and I keep washcloths near the toilet for washing up when I really need to. Using tampons helps keep things from getting too messy, but they're not always appropriate.

Sex while bleeding requires ample towels, and leaking through pants is annoying when they're light colored, but I just sigh and plan to change as soon as I get home when they're dark, unless it's a huge leak, and those haven't happened since I've been out of my twenties and have become more predictable.

I am one of those women who has "lots of pubic hair". My vagina is NOT dirty in any way; in fact, I keep it very clean. There is nothing disgusting about my cunt, hairy or not.

Now that is totally uncalled for behavior. You are free to express your opinion, yes. And everyone else is free to express theirs. Disputing someone else's self-description of such a personal zone is rude, immature, and totally pathetic. Yes, it's your right to be rude, immature, and pathetic, but don't expect it to win you too many friends.

I'm sorry you seem to experience such self-disgust (and frankly *IMO*, a woman who finds the female form disgusting is experiencing some form of self-disgust) and I'm sorry you don't seem to have a female-positive viewpoint. I feel sad when I see a woman who feels this way. It's sure not a very smooth path to happiness she treads.

Someday your menstrual cycles will cease and maybe *then* you'll truly be happy. It's gonna take awhile, though, so why not adapt and make the best of things now?

There's nothing wrong with having sex on my period, and the jab at women with plenty of pubic hair was downright insulting... Glad you're disgusted by the habits of other women who happen to be bleeding, though. Really.

Who made you the arbiter of what "lots of pubic hair" means anyway? I'm sure you judgement of "lots of" is the same as some peoples "that's normal" and some people's "That's not enough."

Don't be too hard on her. Perhaps she was never shown how wonderful and powerful women are.... rather taught that our natural cycles are "disgusting" - probably by someone who was taught that...etc., ad nauseum. i used to hate my moontime - especially as a young (10-11) woman when i was the only girl in my school who bled. But, since then, i have learned to reclaim my power and my body. Who knows, perhaps some day this young woman will learn to love all of her body and reject the teachings that only the "clean" and "good" parts of her are acceptable.

blessings...
inann

It's one thing to say that you hate *your* experiences with it, and another entirely to make a proclamation of things that other women do that are disgusting.

It's not that there's anything "dirty" or "bad" about bleeding, though... blah.
I dunno. I guess it just grates me a bit when someone comes along and says "okay, everyone who does a b and c is disgusting"...

It grates on me too.... but i realized, after her response to me, that she doesn't seem to care if she likes her body and it's powers (and trials)... and if that's what makes her happy, so mote it be.. .no skin off my nose. It's not worth my time to deal with it. Perhaps someone will come along who wants to change their relationship with their body, i'll be there to help them - if they want. If they don't, that's their choice.

It's one thing to not care about your *own* body image, and another to call other people disgusting. The former is sad, but the latter is plain rude.

::shrugs:: Oh well. I've had my dose of LJ drama for the week, I'll be driving through now...

give her a break

she is just expressing her opinion, like you are expressing yours. there is no crime in sharing your thoughts. she is not cramming her opinion down anyone's throat, just making a statement. not everyone has to agree, and nobody has to 'convince' anyone else that their way of thinking is "correct."

In that case, give me a break, too.
Goes both ways.

I am so with you on this one! My moods are so crazy that my doc actually told me to take my pills about three months continuously. I always use tampons and panty-liners. NO diapers for me. I've never once leaked thru my pants! How on earth can people let that happen?

wuite easily when you try a new brand of tampons, because they sometimes leak. Or maybe your period is slightly heavier than you anticipated and it fluxuates throughout the day and at one point it gets heavier than when you put the tampon in, and it accidently leaks. haven't you ever leaked?

Honestly, I don't know that many women that are totally thrilled about having their body be out of control during their cycle, no matter what they do.

Have you talked to your doctor about tubal libation or other procedures?

Date: 2002-05-13 09:17 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] inanna.livejournal.com
a tubal ligation does nothing to stop menstruation, all it does is block the fallopian tubes so conception is impossible. The only way, at this time, to stop menstruation is to have a hysterectomy..... not something recommended on a casual basis as it also effects hormone production (yes, ovaries are primary, but the uterus does have hormonal effects as well). Although someone did post a link to a site talking about a procedure where they use a hot "balloon" to cauterize the entire uterine wall which is supposed to drastically reduce menstrual flow and (as a side effect) causes sterility

I know tubal ligation doesn't stop menstruation. Not desiring children seemed to be the primary concern, most doctors won't do an elective hysterectomy, but they will do the other.

Oh...i thought you were commenting on her general disgust with anything that comes out of her vagina, as opposed to her oneline comment about not wanting kids. :) OOPS! :)
