(It's a new person! Whee! :P)

I've been thinking of switching to washable cotton pads for some time now, but I don't know which brand is best, and they cost enough that I really don't want to find out by trial and error. I'm also somewhat large, and itty bitty pads don't work for me at all (I can't wear anything but longs if I want unstained underwear), so that's another concern.

Right now I'm looking at Glad Rags, Lunapads, and Pandora Pads. Do any of you use these? Are any of them especially good or bad?

(And why do none of these people bother telling us just how big these are, other than general mini/regular/long sizes?)

Any advice you could give would be appreciated. ^_^

One of the people here makes/sells pads - i haven't tried them, but i am certain she can give you dimensions (as will most sellers if you drop them an email). There is also http://www.prettypads.com - the woman who makes them is really nice.

Then there is making them yourself. Open up a package of whatever brand and take a look.... i made all my own by making a pattern from one i looked at...then made it longer/wider (i, too, am a larger woman). i used the waterproof fabric that they use for diaper pads (can get them at the fabric store) to make an under-pad liner to protect my underpants.

Good luck!!

Hmm... try http://www.PrettyPads.com - maybe it needed the capitals, or maybe it was down for a little bit. i just got PrettyPads to work for me.
i can't sew very well at all (nothing with a real pattern), but i did ok with the pads. Maybe buy your first set or two and then play around from there. If you want to use cloth exculsively, i would get at least 10 pads so you can use some, have some washing, and some drying... you'll probably have to wash and dry during the week.

Good luck!

I just compared the length of a long Always pad and a Glad Rag. The Always pad is a little bit longer/wider - if you put the Glad Rag on top of the Always, there's about a 1/2 to 3/4 inch halo around the part behind the wings (the top part is essentially the same).

The absorbancy of Glad Rags varies. It has an outer liner, which holds absorbent inserts. You can vary the number of inserts depending on your needs.

I can't really say how well they work, as my period was too light last month to really test them.

There was someone a few days ago asking if anyone would buy homemade pads from her. If you look back in time a bit, you should be able to find the post. I'd imagine that she (or any other person who sells homemade pads) would be able to make custom sized pads.

the gladrags overnight pad is much larger than the regular gladrags pad... i like that one better than ANY disposable pad for coverage. it doesn't taper at the ends, but widens out, so it actually works for me. it's larger than any overnight disposable i've come across, but i haven't tried Always' new 14+ line.
