I have a question for everyone that is currently taking or has taken the pill. More spefically tri-cyclen.

I've been on it for about a month and a half now and all the side effects are gone thank goddess, they were really horriable, but now I'm having horriable mood swings that get so bad I refuse to talk to people,( only talking to my girlfriend), wont eat, have trouble sleeping etc.

Could this be related to the pill or could it be something entirly differnt?

I know the pill shouldn't be taken by those who have had a history of depression, which I have had but I was in theraphy and things are good in that area. Would the pill be affecting that or is it like I suggested earlier, something entirly differnt?

It could very well be the pill. I can't take the pill. I have tried many different ones over the years (since I was 15) & even the one you are on. They make ~fabulous~ birthcontrol for me because sex is absolutely the last thing on my mind when I am on them. Give it another month or so, but keep in mind that anytime medicine dicks around with your hormones, you might feel the same way.

It could be a lot of things, among them the pill. One of the things that you might look at is if this is the right pill for you; tri-cyclen is supposed to mimic the hormone changes in a diiferent way than monophasic pills which provide your body with the same dose of hormones through your cycle. I know some people who had been taking triphasic pills and who were a complete mess the whole time and switched to monophasic pills only to find it a completely different experience, and vice versa. (Anecdotally, I've heard more horror stories from my friends about triphasic pills than monophasic ones.)

Give it another month or so; I think they usually advise three months to allow the side effects to go away, and if it's still giving you trouble, give your doctor a call. He or she may want to change the pill you're on.

Birth control pills *can* be taken by people with depression history, it just has to be watched more closely; I'm on it and I've had brushes with depressive and mood problems myself. I'm on orthotrycyclen now and it's worked well for me, but peope react differently (of course~ :)

The short answer is yes, it could be the Pill. Is this the first formulation you've tried? You might want to try switching to another formula and seeing if your reactions are different then. (Alternately, you could try waiting another month or two because often the body will "adjust" gradually over about three months or so; if it's been more than that and still no change, it could be you just don't tolerate this brand of Pill. Or, it could be the moods are from something else)

If there's something else that could be triggering this (extra stress in the life, etc) then I'd suggest you keep an eye on things but try waiting another month or so. If not, then my 2c would be to see about switching formulae. Withdrawl socially is (in my book) a Major Side Effect, so it's worth trying to get rid of it--and if it's as easy as switching to another brand of Pill, all the better. Good luck, anyhow
