using instead . . . instead
Jun. 20th, 2002 11:56 pmhi. i just joined. obviously 'cause i have a question. i figured i'd give instead a try this month - up until reading here tonight i didn't even know there was a keeper. i scrolled back a bunch of entries but only found this entry discussing it. how many people here actually use instead? does everyone have leakage? did your partner really not notice it during sex?
anyway, i'm trying it out for the first time right now and i'm highly nervous about it 'cause i hate switching from something i've come to mostly trust (tampons) - but i definitely see the perks (sex, longer time lapses, etc.). can everyone please tell me anything good or bad they know about using intead, and any tips if they have any?
thanks a lot.

Date: 2002-06-20 09:09 pm (UTC)I've only had sex with it once, and that was a long time ago. He was fairly well endowed, and he felt it. Asked me what the hell I had inside me, too. *chuckle* That was amusing. I couldn't use Instead for the rest of that cycle, as it felt odd. Now if I want to have sex while on my period, I tell him that I'm on it, and if he has a problem with it, well... he isn't getting any. Because I'm not wearing the thing while having sex. To me at least, it feels odd if he hits it.

Date: 2002-06-21 06:20 am (UTC)Tips on insertion: Don't me scared, and don't be afraid to push it way back in there....it needs to fit under your cervix. If you can feel it when it's in, you probably need to push it back a little further.
Also - you prob will spot more with instead than with a keeper. It isn't really anywhere as effective as tampons, leakage-wise. But on light flow days it works well.
Best of Luck!

Date: 2002-06-21 06:37 am (UTC)One nifty thing about Insteads is that you don't actually have to throw them out every 6 hours - you can rinse (or wash with a mild soap and then rinse really well) and reinsert. The cup portion of Insteads isn't durable enough to keep doing this indefinitely - but one cup can easily be used for a full cycle.

Date: 2002-06-22 09:31 am (UTC)I do find that often when I go to the bathroom it needs to be readjusted, kinda starts to get pushed out, er, from going.
I also do the rinse & reuse for a few days. They're too expensive not to! (I've been having this weird on & off again bleedfest for a few months though, so no matter what I use it's hurting my wallet. :/ )

Date: 2002-06-22 11:49 pm (UTC)and it just seemed like a big mess to me.
are you girls not having any problems removing them??
i never really thought about the idea of still being able to be sexually active while using them.
that's nice...
