Okay, ladies, what are your favorite menstrual accessories?

When it comes to tampons, I'm a Tampax girl all the way. Tampax was the first brand I ever used, and although I've tried other brands, I like it best. Playtex tampons are too chunky, and o.b. are not soft or flexible enough. They're like sandpaper.

I don't use pads, but I recently bought some pantyliners made especially for thongs. I rarely wear panties, but there are a few days after my dot that I have some discharge, and I wear thongs then. The liners are by Always, and I say it's about damn time that someone made a pantyliner for thongs.

Does anyone here use a Keeper? I really want one, but I want to make sure it will work for me before I buy one. I can't use a tampon bigger than slender. so if the "b" size keeper is much bigger, it will be a no-go.

I've tried Instead, and it really didn't work for me. The large size made it difficult to insert, and it never fit comfortably.

buy the keeper. if it absolutely doesn't work for you, they have a full refund return policy if it's within 3 months :)

I'm such a cute little amalgam. I use the Satin line of Tampax, although I love their Compak line for when I'm out. I use reusable pads if I'm not in the mood to bother with tampons or at night.

I'm still condsidering the Keeper. I'm pretty sure it would fit, but I'm still a wee bit intimidated. The comments here are helping, but it's still taking me a while to get my nerve up. :)

i tend to use tampons.. except for when my cramps are so bad that the thought of any extra pressure at ALL in there is enough to make it out of the question, in which case i use pads. all this talk about how awful tampons are for you is making me think of the keeper... if i get my paycheck anytime soon i think i'll go for one. i'm also trying to get up the nerve to discuss all this with my mother... she's not so much of a computer person, and i doubt she knows any of this. i think it'd be an interesting conversation to have, but we don't talk much, at least not about stuff like this. wish me luck...

I tend to lean towards tampons too, though I probably shouldn't.

I have found organic, all-cotton, oxygen bleached tampons called "Natracare." I sometimes find them in better grocery stores, but they are also available on drugstore.com (however long they last!) They also don't have applicators. I cannot abide tampon applicators. Before I found Natracare, I used o.b. tampons. I also use whatever pantiliners are on sale. And Always pads with wings for nighttime.

Tampax tampons - regular or super regular.

My housemate came home with a box of thong pads a couple weeks back -- I forgot about them, though, so I haven't been able to give them a try.

I like my keeper, but I have a tough time using it when I am out. I hate taking it out and putting it back in while I am in a bathroom stall. I bleed very heavily for a couple of days. (The other days are more moderate). Maybe I need more practice, but I seem to end up getting blood everywhere. I haven't used my keeper in awhile. Maybe it's time to give it a try again.

I change mine in bathroom stalls all the time. There's a few great tricks for it.

1.) Bring in a damp paper towel (you might need 2) and a dry one with you BEFORE you go in the stall.
2.) Take out the Keeper very carefully, keeping in mind what way up is pointing. Sit on the toilet while you do this. Hold the Keeper firmly in your hand. The second the top of it comes out, just dump its contents in the toilet.
3.) Use the damp paper towel and wipe it out inside and out. Dry it off with the dry one. Moisten the lip of it, if you usually do that, and put it back in.

I've found that that works great for me.

Sorry bout that, but love your icon. :-)

See above discussion:

Somebody said, "The entry to which you are commenting was made over three years ago."

Then you said, "ah... well, hopefully, someone else will read archives, and will gain something from this."

So I was reading the archives, so you were right! That's all.

That's really strange, because I was just reading your post and saw that you referred to your period as your "dot." I have never heard anyone else besides me and my boyfriend use that term. :) I wasn't going to comment because of how old this entry is but since it's been touched on so recently I figure, why not?

sorry to dreg up such an old post yet again, but i was reading through this community's archives and i'd never heard anyone but my boyfriend and i call it "dot," either ... and he only does because i do, i think. lol

coincidentally, there's a website where they list various slang terms for menstruation, and "dot" is on there ... so i gather it must be at least fairly common, somewhere :)

i use OB tampons without the applicator, because i'm trying to cut down on my waste (my waist, too, but that's a different story). i've also wanted to try the keeper.. but how do you know what size to order?

i remember being fitted for a diaphragm (which i couldn't get out, so i didn't get one) and the doc started with a big one, since i've had a baby. well, surprise, i had a c-section, so i ended up on the smallest size diaphragm. maybe too much information, i know.

but if it's that hard to fit me for a diaphragm, is it going to be any easier to figure out what size keeper i would need? ugh.

well, i'm not a small girl.. and it's kind of embarassing, but what the hell, huh?

i couldn't reach up high enough to get it out. and when i *did* manage to grab ahold of the thing, it slipped right out of my pinch hold (you have to pinch it to get it out).

it was like trying to get a slippery frisbee out of a loooong wet pipe.

maybe i was doing something wrong.. but i just couldn't figure it out. on the bright side, my doc (who is a female and slender) says she can't use them either. and she fits people for them all the time!

oh well.. i'm not too worried. hubby got a vasectomy and has tested negative (no more troublesome sperm). but i just hate using condoms with my OSO, ya know? ick.

best of luck in whatever you decide!!

I like Tampax as well. I like their Compax line for going out. When I use pads I use Stayfree Ultrathins. And for pantiliners I use Kotex or Alldays.

random comment: for thong pantyliners, carefree is much better than always. they have little wings to help keep them in place, and they're more absorbent without being bulky.
