I'm hoping people in here can help me. I'm just wondering how bad cramps can be for you. My mom seems to think i'm overreacting to the pain but no one else i know gets so sick they have to miss school/work every month, and it's just gotten worse in the past year or so. I just want to see from other people if this is normal before i get a doctor appointment and start complaining about the pain. Sorry if this doesn't make sense, it's late and i just need to ask this before tomorrow when i have to call the doctor. Thank you so much for your help :)

My cramps are bad, but not awful. However, my cousin Leah would get period cramps so painful that she would have to miss school, work, and pretty much any sort of activity that didn't involve laying in bed, doped up, with a heating pad over her abdomen. If I were you, I would definitely get a check-up and explain everything to my gyno, just to see if there is anything (medication? maybe even the pill?) that can be done to alleviate the pain.

When I was in high school, I was once *sent home* by a teacher because I was pale and he thought I was going to pass out. All through high school and during part of my twenties I'd get cramps so bad that I had to miss school from time to time for my own safety. Moving around too much made me weak and shaky.

I used to throw up every month when I got my period, and would often spend at least a day curled up in bed whimpering.

There are things you can do about it, though, so definitely mention it to your doctor.

my mom used to get cramps so bad she would puke and pass out, plus she would sometimes have her period twice a month. eek. it turned out that in her case it was because she had endometriosis. but i have heard other horror stories from other people, and i don't think it's an overreaction by any means. definitely talk to your doctor!!

i used to get them so bad that i was screaming and crying. my legs would tingle like mad and i couldn't sit/stand still so i was moving all over and grabbing at my stomach and running to the bathroom thinking i was going to puke. sometimes it would last for hours, it could like disapear for a bit and then suddenly BANG, it's awful again. i ended up having to miss a day of school here and there as well.

so yes, if they're that bad you should most likely go and see a doctor. i did and she prescribed me something called 'apo mefenamic acid 250 mg' and it apparently does something to help out my uterus? and it works best if you take the pills a bit before you're going to get your period but they do help, i usually take the first two accompanied with an advil and then as long as i continue taking one every 6 hours my cramps are either very minimal or non-existant. and my doc told me that if they didn't work there is another type of pill i could try and after that birth control would be considered. i'm not sure what your doctor will say to you but good luck and just know there are options to help out the utter pain!! :D

I used to have bad enough cramps/nausea that I had to take a day off just about every month, and a friend of mine would throw up when she got her period. I didn't go on the Pill because of the cramps specifically (I thought it was normal to be that miserable and that there was no remedy), but after I started taking it almost all of the problems went away, and I only feel a little sick every once in a while.

If you're in pain every month, that's not an overreaction. Please don't be afraid to discuss any concerns with your doctor; they are there to help us with things like this.
