My name is Stacey, and I'm new around 'the hut' so to speak.

Anyway, I have a question to ask and its hard for me to ask cuz its a sick question, but, anyway, . . .

How big are clots normally supposed to be? I mean, mine are huge. They are very disgusting to look at. Like, I bet one of them would fill a 1/4 measuring cup.

Is this at all normal and have any of you ever encountered this problem?

Is this something I should alert my doctor about?

Thank you. :)

I had a clot once that looked like a big lump of blood-soaked tissue. Was so big and so not-just-blood-y that it squeezed right past the tampon and into my hand. Freaked me out royal, but when I showed it to my mother, she just looked at it, shrugged, said "Oh, that's normal for me; it happens when you get older" and was done with it.

I think some women's blood just doesn't thin like the rest of ours.
If you're truly concerned you should ask someone who's a little more educated than I, though.

i pretty much always pass clots. Some as big as the palm of my hand. At one point i asked my doctor (at first i never knew it was unusual) and they said it was no big deal if it was normal for me.

If this is the first time you have had clotting (meaning it is abnormal for you), i would call the doctor immediately. If this is something regular for you, but not this heavy, i would call the doctor and just ask to speak to the triage nurse. If this has been going on for a long time and you are just wondering if it is "normal" - i would mention it at your next appointment.

If this is something new AND you are bleeding very heavily (1 pad per hour) i would call the doctor immediately.

Odds are it is just your body's natural way of dealing with the uterine lining.... i wouldn't worry at all - just make a point of learning more (which is what you are doing here, too... huzzah!)

blessings...
inanna

I have never had any clots from my period. I know that everyone is different and all, so I'm not concerned or anything.

For some reason, I just thought I'd share that. =D
