Why do periods come back after a day of lightness?

Eww. Something big and dark and fleshy just fell out of me. is my uterus being torn apart?
ugh. It freaked me out.

It's probably just a blood clot; mine's often clott-y after being light or gone for a day and then returning. (My un-scientific theory is that perhaps the clot blocks the cerical opening for awhile, letting it lighten or stop, before being expelled?) On the other hand, if you're sexually active, there's a *slight* chance it could be a miscarriage. If your period was late and heavier than usual and you had more clots in general, you might get it checked. But I'm betting it was just a clot.
