Hi, I'm new here and I have a question. I hope this is the right place to ask it.
I'm almost 16 now and I've had my period for four years. The first year it was basically a normal period. But starting the second year I started to get really strong cramps. Now I get very sick during my period. Vomiting, dizzy spells, constipation, fainting and massive depression.
Does anyone know if this will eventually go away? Is there anything I can take for it or will I just have to grin and bare it?
Thanks for your time!

holy cow; I've never seen anyone so intensely involved with their menses. Good focus!

I was kind of similar when I first started out; fine at first, then awful cramps, vomiting, all that stuff. A doctor prescribed Anaprox for me, which worked all right, but I was told you have to start taking it a day or so before your period actually starts. I don't know about you, but when I first started out my periods weren't that easy to predict. The only thing I can say is that I still get cramps, but they're nothing compared to what they were like when I was a teenager. And being on birth control pills helps a LOT. Even if you're not looking for birth control, you could still look into it to help with the cramps.

Your mom shouldn't have to; if you talk to your doctor about it and s/he recommends it, it's (1) confidential, and (2) medically your issue. It's perfectly normal to prescribe b/c pills for "calming" and regulating menses, and there are some formulations of the Pill that are better than others for totally skipping periods. For the depression, if it's severe, you might also talk to your doctor about the possibility of trying an anti-depressant; they are supposed to really help some people who have hormonally-induced depression (PMDD is often part of this--like PMS on a hellish scale, which seems like what you're describing!).

Anyhow, good luck, you're certainly getting a raw deal from your hormones
