ive been on nordette for.. about six months now. something like that.

for about three months the only side effect i had was weight gain. i went from 135 to 152. maybe this isnt due to the birth control, but my eating habits havent changed at all.

as if this wasnt enough..

i also noticed my sex drive has become almost nonexistant. whenever my boyfriend is here, i dont want to do anything. i'd rather watch tv. it's awful.

and the worst of all.

the past two months ive had recurrent yeast infections. i tried monistat three. and then monistat one. and then went to the gyno. first, she gave me something similar to monistat. a few days later i was feeling the symptoms again. so about a week and a half ago i went back to see her & she tested me and said this time, yeast infection wasnt showing up. though it may have been due to the possibility of me having more yeast than normal, but not enough to show up on a test.

she gave me one diflucan.

the symptoms are kind of back again. but only every few hours do i experience itching.

is there anything else this could be? she isnt experienced with recurrent yeast infections. and i dont see why she doesnt think its my birth control? help me out here.

also, if your blood in your period is very very dark [black] and very clotted. is that a bad sign of something? because i've been having that problem.. and it also has a very unpleasant smell.

I think you need to talk to your gyno [about the yeast infections and the dark/clotting/foul smelling period] -- To me it sounds like you need to switch birth controls. My question is, why didn't they put you on Ortho-TriCyclen or Ortho-Cyclen - the two main birth controls. Maybe you can find a different gyno if he/she is having problems figuring out your problem.

that's my 2 cents

Ortho-Cyclen and Ortho-Try-Cyclen aren't "main" birth controls. Simply put, they've spent more on advertising so they're more familiar to most people by name...just like Kleenex is more familiar than some other brands of tissues. The company that makes Ortho-Try-Cyclen spent some of their research money on proving to the FDA that it's effective in controlling acne (which is a side effect of pretty much every birth control pill because of the way it affects hormones.)

Each body is different, and therefore, just because OTC works well for some people, it doesn't for others. I'd be miserable on a phasic pill like OTC for example, and yet another friend was miserable on a monophasic pill. The progestin in any of the ortho pills make me ill, and yet, other variations of synthetic progestin don't.

There are many many variations of birth control pill, and each one is right for different people; there isn't one main one (like with penicillin.)

I'm sorry, that's what I was told. I don't want to start any fights in here, I've done a lot of research on Women's Health, I was one of the 25 of the 3000 women chosen to help with the Govonor of Iowa's Young Women's Health fest. I was just giving my 2 cents.

I'm sorry, I'll leave the community.

The darkness/clotting has happened to me; so long as it's not on a *major* scale (huge clots and heavy dark bleeding which can mean, among other things, a miscarriage) it's probably not a problem. However, it looks like you have a pattern of symptoms which is a problem.

If your doctor won't prescribe you another kind of birth control pill to try (which makes no sense to me since many women need to try several kinds before having one work for them.. and this one doesn't seem to work well with you!) I strongly recommend you get a second opinion. And if your doctor objects to *that,* she needs to be "dumped" if at all possible since a second opinion is both your right and--I would opine--responsibility as an informed patient. Good luck
