Hi! Great idea for a community. I could certainly use it right now - I've recently gone from very light, Pill-controlled periods that were barely noticeable to the Periods From Hell, complete with mood swings that seem to continue several days either side of the event itself, flooding and clotting, cramps, backache and feverishness, plus for good measure, random pelvic pain throughout the cycle. My gynaecologist reckons it's adenomyosis; I'm scheduled for more investigations, and I'm seeing her on Tuesday to talk about treatment options if the diagnosis is confirmed. I've decided I'm okay with having a hysterectomy if that's what the gynaecologist recommends, but meanwhile, it's good to have somewhere to share tea and sympathy :-)

Oh, and if anyone has personal experience of adenomyosis, I'd be interested, particularly if you found a painkiller that works for you - aspirin and ibuprofen (Advil is the most common brand name in the US, Nurofen in the UK) don't touch it for me.

Did this start when you went OFF the Pill? If so, do you think going back on the Pill would help? I hope you feel better soon! Also, PLEASE make sure they tell you all the side effects of hysterectomys...a lot of physicians will act as though it's a minor operation that happens all the time and that there are minimal side effects. And while it's true that it DOES happen all the time, a lot of women get them because their physicians recommend them and a lot of time there are other treatment options. Besides the hormone issues, some women have very deep orgasms through uterine contractions, and doctors don't often mention the fact that your orgasms might not be nearly as powerful as they were before. I guess they think that sexual satisfaction isn't an essential function worth mentioning.

However, I have no experience with the type of pain you talk about...aside from cramps now and then, my periods are a breeze, and I know that I'm lucky for that. The only painkillers I use for crazy-type pain is Tylenol with codeine or Vicodin (sp?) and those tend to leave me a little foggy, so they might not be something you want to take on a regular basis. Good luck, and keep us posted.
