hello! im new to this community :D

so yeah, i have a question. i went grocery shopping with my sister today and i was buying tampons.. she informed me that the tampons i buy she used to use all the time, until she became allergic to them and it gave her yeast infections. so now im all paranoid that ill get a yeast infection from them... they are playtex gentle glide i think.. so today i bought tampax instead. she said all cotton is better but we couldnt find one that just said cotton but tampax said cotton and/or rayon.. ANYWAY

im also paranoid because ever since my period ending i have been feeling slight itchiness down there. ive read up on yeast infections but its not like very uncomfortable, no burning or anything, just slight itchiness. sometimes i feel it sometimes i dont. its kind of like a mosquito bite feeling. so im wondering if maybe its a yeast infection but not like a really bad one? or what.. there no other symptoms, just the slight itch.

Speaking as someone who has one right at this moment, what you have does not sound like a yeast infection.

This doesn't anwser your question(s) but..
I wouldn't recommend tampax tampons. I find that they dont absorb as well as other brands i've tried. I used them for a year or so and I was having to change a super tampon every 1.5 hours, I made the switch to another brand and even though my flow was the same I was able to go 3-4 hours without chaning. I've talked to several other people and they say they've all had the same problem.

I highly recommend O.B tampons (you can get them with or without applicator) to everyone. They're fablous.

As for your itch problem.. I've had the same thing on occasion and I've found a warm (but not super hot) bath takes care of it. I dont know if it'll help in your case, just passing on something I've found useful.

I second what [livejournal.com profile] toregone said - I've had much better luck with OB than tampax in terms of absorbancy. I very rarely have any sort of leak with OB, but generally had to use a backup pad with tampax.

Just because your sister developed an allergy to a certain brand of tampons doesn't mean that you necessarily will. Are they the scented type? I know that playtex is big on that, and scented tampons are more likely to cause yeast infections.

Yeast infections vary in strength. You can have one without any symptoms at all, or with only slight itching. If you think you might have one, you might check with a doctor who would be able to tell for sure.

You're likely to not be able to find all-cotton tampons anywhere but a health food store/food co-op. I don't think I've seen them in regular stores.

OB is the way to GO!!!

I third the motion to use OB tampons. I was strictly a pad kinda girl only uses tampons if I absolutely had to!! A few months ago everyone here suggested OB and I feel in love immediately. I use the non applicators and they work wonders. When I did use tampax I either experienced 1)leakage or 2)falling out (as weird as that may sound!)

Warning: possibly too much information following. :) Ok, with that out of the way...I generally have a fairly heavy flow at the beginning of my period, and then it slows down towards the end. I sometimes have a little bit of an itch near the very end because I start to feel a little dry...usually when you use the last few tampons and there isn't a whole lot to absorb and you end up feeling a little cotton-y inside. That might be the problem for you, too...

Also, I too recommend OB. They are so much better than tampax it's inbelievable. I used to have a problem with tampons in that no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get them in far enough to be comfortable, i.e. they always expanded lengthwise and felt all weird. OB tampons are shorter and feel so much better. Plus, less garbage and packaging and fit in your pocket better. :)

All I know is that I love OB...they are shorter than "normal" tampons (I would assume Playtex is similar to Tampax but honestly I've never used it). Tampax, etc. are about 3" long and expand lengthwise, which is why many of us feel that lovely "slipping out" feeling. OB is about 1.5" long and expand AROUND, so I don't even feel it. Basically, I can't say enough good stuff about OB (I prefer the no-applicator kind). They are fabulous.

I use playtex and tried switching to o.b. out of frustration over playtex's infatuation with scenting everything or adding "odor fighting ingredients". I'm sorry to say my experience with o.b. has been lackluster. They just don't fit me well; leakage was more of a problem, and I have actually "lost" the string twice, which is a pain, and which never happened to me with playtex.
