NuvaRing test-drive: results are in!
Nov. 20th, 2002 12:55 amI've heard that you should wait three months before passing judgement on any method of hormonal BC, but I just started my second NuvaRing and I wanted to post here for all who are interested.
PMS
Before, I had a week of slowly building irritability and depression before my period. I was becoming rather unpleasant to live with. Last month, I had about a day and a half of deep self-pity, and then, like magic, I was all better.
Bleeding
My period had gotten to the point where I couldn't leave the house on day two because I was bleeding out about 80% of my total output. Once, in a matter of seconds, I gushed through my Keeper, a super pad, and my jeans -- I was in a bar, and there was actually a little puddle on my barstool. Another time, I missed out on an entire day of my cruise because I was bleeding so heavily. Anyway, this month, I'd guess that my total flow was reduced by about 40-60%. I wouldn't classify any single day as heavy -- a first in the 12-year history of my menses.
Miscellaneous
I didn't notice any weight gain, but I'm a pretty active person. I also didn't notice any change in my breasts in terms of size, tenderness, etc. As for ease of use, nothing could be easier than this. Insert ring, forget about it, remove and replace as directed. My doctor told me that my partner would be able to feel it during intercourse, but my partner didn't mention it and I didn't ask, so I guess it didn't bother him.
Bonus: my health insurance covered over 60% of the cost.

Date: 2002-11-20 09:31 am (UTC)I rarely get cramps and they're never terribly severe. I didn't experience any this past month while using NuvaRing, but I can't say whether there's a connection.
