If you're extremely overweight, or underweight, your periods stop, I do believe. But it's only in extreme cases. Lord knows I've got a little extra padding, and it doesn't seem to affect me at all. Keep me warm in the winter.
i was just wondering 'cause i'm over weight, always have been, and my periods have never ever been regular. i've been on the pill for over two years now and i stupidly didn't refil it in time so i'm waiting for my period to come so i can start up with it again. only it hasn't come. and its annoying.
I have weighed up to 375 lbs (I've lost quite a bit since then) and my periods never stopped until I took Depo Provera and then they stopped altogether... but until then they were regular, very very regular.
I started taking walks, and I stopped eating fast food or at restaurants for a long time. I also ate only when I was absolutely sure I was hungry. No fried foods. I didn't even notice I was losing weight until I'd dropped down several pants sizes.. but I wasn't really "trying" to lose weight. I think the main thing was that I didn't obsess over every pound.. when I do that I tend to end up gaining weight because I'll eat when I'm depressed or whatever.
yeah, totally. i've been thinking about going on some sort of diet and because i'm obsessing over it, i'm pretty sure i've gained in the last few months. its annoying. i just moved into a large apartment complex and i'm thinking of just walking every day around the buildings, 'cause i figure it'd be pretty safe.
I hope it works out for you. I think the best bet is to just try and be happy with the body you got, and instead of feeling bad about any setbacks (such as weight gain, etc), praise yourself for your achievements. Like instead of focusing on looks, focus on your health. Think about how great you feel. You're a beautiful person no matter what you weigh. :)
my boyfriend is really great and actually gets upset when i start putting myself down, so he's a great support person 'cause i know he'll love me no matter what. Thanks!
It's good that you have someone there for you. If you can, you should maybe walk with him instead of by yourself. I'd imagine it'd be a bit more entertaining, and feel like less of a workoutty thing. It'd also be good if he were to suggest going for walks and stuff like that to help you, instead of just you doing/suggesting it. I don't know why but sometimes I don't really wanna get up and do anything because I go through stages where I get really lazy, but if my boyfriend or friendish person were to suggest doing something, it'd kinda make me get off my ass. Know what I mean? Kinda like it's an extra reason and helps you to keep motivated. I have a real problem with motivation I'm in a lazy stage again =/
Well, they say it does if you're really overweight or underweight, but my experience was that even losing a little bit of weight makes a difference. Mine were always really irregular [like.. every three months or so] until I lost a few kilos, and then all of a sudden they just became regular as clockwork. I think it might have more to do with eating healthier food and getting exercise, rather than the weight as such, but I was really surprised.
I also think it has more to do with diet and exercise. And apparently eating properly and exercising reduces cramps as well. And I think you're also supposed to ingest more calcium than usual during your period because you loose a lot at that time with the blood.
I don't know about overweight, but I do know that people who are extremely underweight (read anorexic) miss many periods at a time. It all depends on the person though, I dropped 8 lbs this summer and missed a month. And I know it was that because everything else was a constant. :-)
i'm overweight, and my period is very irregular. I used to take birth control pills to regulate it but i stopped, i kind of like having irregular periods cause i dont wanna clean after myself every god damn month, for one week. haha. oh well. some people are just different.
Sometimes being overweight can affect your menstrual cycle. Overweight girls tend to menstruate sooner than thinner ones. If yours are irregular, and you've been menstruating for a while, you might want to get it checked out...it might have something to do with your weight, it might not.
i'm almost 100 pounds over the "ideal weight for my height" and my periods have always been very very regular and very very easy to live through (no cramps no nothin) i think it really depends on the person. my sister runs alot and hasn't had her period regularly since starting strenuous exercise for her running 10k's and marathons. but i haven't reached a weight where i'm not regular.
