Hello Ladies. I was wondering if any of you have ever gone on the pill without having to see a gyno. A friend of mine has the same doctor as I do and she was put on the pill without having to go to the gyno due to the fact she told her doctor she wasnt sexually active. Well...since im not either, yet. I was wondering if this maybe would be possible for me so i can regulate my period and such...hmm. I need feedback!

It's possible, but as a part of the responsibility for taking care of your own body, you should probably have an exam anyway. It also helps your doctor to understand if the pill he prescribes causes any changes in your body that he/she should be concerned about. Ask your mother or a friend to stay with you during the exam to talk to you (looking at you, not the business end of things). This can make the exam a lot easier to get through the first time.

Whether or not a given doctor is unethical enough to prescribe it, you shouldn't try, IMHO. There are many things involved with Female Plumbing that require attention and occasional inspection, whether or not you're having sex (assuming, of course, that one is old enough to be menstruating, which I'm assuming you are). Baseline data must be established, and at absolute minimum you need a pap smear beforehand, and every 6mo-1yr while you're taking hormonal control. Anything else is utterly reckless of your health, and your possible future ability to have children.

Think of it as like the dentist: nobody *likes* going to the dentist, but you can't just go to your regular doctor, stick out your tongue for ten seconds, and be prescribed uber-fluoride toothpaste and a course of whiteners, right? That pain in the back of your mouth might be a piece of popcorn stuck between your teeth, or an impending root canal, and only a dentist can tell for sure.

Certain BCs also have either to many or not enough horomones. Some can make you crazy and depressed, gain lots of weight, or just make you ache. You should really check with a doctor, its the responsible thing to do. Word.

as others have said, while it may be possible, it isn't recommended. most doctors absolutely require a pelvic exam before they will put you on the pill...at least, all doctors in my experience. it's just a good idea to make sure everything's in order before introducing synthetic hormones to your system, among other reasons.
