Hey, I'm a junior in high school, and 16 years old. I just lost my virginity this past Saturday to my boyfriend of about a month. Although it's a relatively short amount of time to have been together prior to having sex, it felt right for me, and I don't regret it at all. However, for less than a minute, we were having sex without protection, since both of us were a little nervous, it was hard for him to keep an erection when we stopped to put the condom on. Anyway, after a minute, we did put it on, and for the rest of the time we used the condom. I'm not very worried... although there are obviously risks when having unprotected sex even if it's for a short amount of time. The only thing that I have to take into consideration is making sure that we always use protection from now one. I have two questions, though: First question is regarding the slight chance of me getting pregnant. Saturday, we had sex. And today, I got my period. I don't know if that means anything about my chances of being pregnat. I have no idea when I am most fertile, or if having sex only a few days before getting my period lessens or increases the chance of pregnancy. He didn't ejaculate when we weren't using the condom, but I do know that there is pre-ejaculation... The second question is about what type of birth control I should use. I personally have no desire to use the pill. The idea of placing weird hormones into my body doesn't exactly thrill me. I have no problem with condoms, but I know that alone, they aren't foolproof. I'm not sure if I should get condoms with spermicide already in them, or if we should buy the spermicide separately. All of the methods of contraception that go into the female seem kind of strange to me. Well, I would love any feedback. Thanks a lot.

Hi!

Unfortunately, you getting your period today means nothing. You could still be pregnant. I shit you not - my friend had her period for FIVE MONTHS and she was pregnant. If you don't want to just sit there and nibble on your nails, may I suggest something? Most hospitals - emergency rooms - will give you a morning after pill. You can take this pill for up to 72 hours afterwards and you won't get pregnant.

Since abstaining doesn't seem to be an option for you, I'd suggest condoms w/spermacide. The Pill prevents from pregnancy, but NOT STDs. Hope that helped a bit. :)

Just thought I would post a link of birth control effectiveness from Planned Parenthood. Hopefully you can find one that works well for you.

Your most fertile time is a few days either side of ovulation, which usually happens 14 days before your next period. You're relatively unlikely to get pregnant four days before a period; as you obviously realise, you shouldn't rely on that as your sole method of birth control, but from what you describe, I don't think you need to worry this time.
