Dec. 9th, 2002 11:35 pma week of sore breasts... mild cramping... and ease in the cramping today... and two days of craving marmite.
yep, it's just about that time. i expect the cramps and heaves will hit full force tomorrow or so.
does anyone else with the salt/savoury craving find themselves eating marmite straight from the jar.
dip a finger in, pull it out, slowly tease the marmite off the finger... then repeat.
i think i'm going insane doing this. but it's sooooo good.

i think most folks would just go for reese cups (pb is salty). shame i'm allergic to half the ingredients.

yeasty recipe
Date: 2002-12-09 09:38 pm (UTC)If you get salty/yeasty cravings, I highly recommend this weird recipe that I love. It was passed to me by a hippie college friend, and though skeptical at first, I quickly realized how addictive and delicious it really is.
Fried Tofu with Nutritional Yeast
Slice a block of firm tofu into very thin slices and dry as well as possible without breaking the pieces. Soak each one briefly in soy sauce or tamari sauce (soaking each side), then coat in nutritional yeast. (You can buy it in bulk in health food stores.) Drop into a hot nonstick pan with oil and fry both sides. You can do it with just a tiny bit of oil or you can deep fry the things -- it works either way.
Serve with steamed rice and sauteed or steamed green vegetables like broccoli or spinach.
YIKES!
now, though, it would kill me.
literally. ;) i'm allergic to soy.
i do tend to make yeasty (brewer's yeast or nutritional yeast) things this time of month. i pour tons of brewer's yeast on almost every dish... and i use nutritional yeast in some dishes. mmmm...

Date: 2002-12-10 10:54 am (UTC)Carry on.
I do share that taste for yeasty/salty goodness, though; can say that much. And nutritional yeast is very high in B vitamins, and doesn't actually contain sodium, even though it's salty.
Re: YIKES!

mmmm, heading for the marmite jar...
heh...

Date: 2002-12-10 07:01 pm (UTC)it's kinda strong, but if you *like* that, you'll slowly start to enjoy it. ;)
i really do spread it thinly on buttered toast and eat it up quickly this time of month.
i hear that wee brown jar calling my name as we speak. it's luring me to the kitchen. maybe i can convince boy to bring me my slippers so i can go make a cuppa time-o-the-month tea and some toast.
mmmm, marmite.
i should write the company and try to convince them to market an ad campaign promoting marmite for menstruating women. *giggles*
