Well, after getting back under insurance, I finally got to go back to the gynecologist. It was 'decided' that I have polycystic ovarian syndrome (which I'd already figured, but had no professional to back me up) and will finally be treated for it.

I have had only two periods this year...I went from December of last year until June and then had another in September. The doctor put me on provera to give my body a little push into beginning another. From there on, they will be regulated by the pill. Such. A. Relief.

How long does it take provera to coax the start of bleeding? This is just out of curiosity. I have begun pre-menstrual symptoms and they are a bit harsher than what I've been used to in the past (nearly nothing) and I guess you could say I'm getting impatient. I have a pounding headache and probably only my second or third case of cramps ever. The cramping is severe and is making me nauseous. Is this because I am essentially forcing my menstruation, do you think? What other factors can contribute to unusually acute cramping?

I'm sorry that this is a bunch of questions in one, but your thoughts would be much appreciated.

I'm wondering that as well, my doctor has put me on provera to help treat my heaviness of my periods and painful cramps.

depends on how your doc Rx the stuff. mine was 3 pills everyday for 3 days and it took me about 7-10 days to get the period

my friend has pos. she is also on provera. before she knew what was wrong she didnt get a period for over a year...so when she finally went to a dr. she told my friend what was wrong and prescribed the rx. well she is taking the pills every day for a week in the first week of the month every other month..hope that made sense. she usually gets her period on the 8th or 9th day..sometimes though she gets it later in the month...just depending on when she remembers to take it...and she is suppose to get it on her own the months that she is not on the pills. so far so good. she has gotten a period every month since she started taking the pills and even the months that she didnt.. hope this wasnt confusing.

Nausea is a common side-effect of any kind of hormonal contraception. Cramps are less so, but ordinarily the medication is timed to coincide with a natural period rather than to bring one on, so I don't find it surprising that you would get them in your current situation.
