I'm on Prostap injections to stop my periods because of suspected adenomyosis (similar to endometriosis, except that the surplus tissue is inside the muscle of the womb rather than on the outside of other organs). The pain was constant, but got worse after sex or just before and during a period, and the idea was to stop my periods to see if that helped. If so, the next step would be to consider a hysterectomy.

So, I had my first injection three weeks ago. At first it seemed great - I only had pain after sex, and it cleared up quicker than before each time - but now it's just one week until my period would have been due, and the pain's back with a vengeance. Not sure if it's because of the time of the month, or because the first dose of the injection has almost worn off, or if it might just possibly be an adverse reaction to using an anti-fungal pessary for thrush last night. (The thrush itself is probably the result of antibiotics they gave me when I went into hospital for investigative surgery to diagnose the adenomyosis, so I'm feeling rather hard-done-by and annoyed at the universe right now).

Have taken painkillers, which are taking the edge off, but just barely.

Grr. Whinge. Moan. (etc etc.)

OWS in sympathy ...

poor you! i complained like mad about being in pain for two or three days per month ... i would have been *begging* for a hysterectomy if it had been constant!

Have you tried a tens machine at all? I found it helped me, and they're not that expensive to buy (about 40 quid, from a place in Derbyshire, and no VAT to pay when you fill in a form to say that you need it for medical reasons, if i remember right).

Have to say that i've changed my HRT onto continuous combined therapy and it seems to be going well. No bleed at all until i switched onto the lower dose of the new patches, and when it did come the level of pain was minimal and easily controlled by paracetamol and ibuprofen. I don't mind the blood, it's just the pain I can't cope with! I imagine that once I stabilise on the new dose, even the bleeding probably won't happen.

Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time - hope your medical people are sympathetic and effective in finding the right solution with you.
