okay, let me first state that it is impossible that i am pregnant. trust me. that aside, i've been spotting for a bit now. and i think it's the "old blood," "brown spotting" or whatever it's called. either way it freaks me out.

the short version of it is that i'm on ortho-tricyclen. i always take my last pill (before the reminder pill) on saturday, and like clockwork i always get my period that monday. well, during the last cycle i was going to do that, but decided because of a weekend away i was having, and some other things going on that i didn't want to deal with my period on top of that. so i did what i've done before (not very often, maybe 2x in the last 5 years) and i skipped the reminder pills and just started the next pack. BUT i realized i was going to do this and started on monday (taking sunday and mondays then). that didn't seem like a big deal, because that's what you're supposed to do if you miss a day anyway. then this started.

has this ever happened to anyone before? i've never even regularly spotted before, besides getting it really light a little early. so i have no clue if this is what normal spotting is or something. it's not . . . pouring out or anything. it's just there. anyone have any ideas?

thanks in advance for any information you can give me.

It's normal. It's a reaction to the extra progesterone in your body from skipping straight to the next pack and/or taking two pills at once.

It won't last beyond the start of your next period, but I don't think it's possible to predict whether or not it will stop before that.

been there...

i learned last month never ever to skip the empty pills. i'm on orthcyclen which is similar to ortho tricyclen. i skpped my empty pills and got my period right on time as if i'd taken my empty pills and had my period for 3 weeks. its really not healthy to skip them because bleeding full-flow for 3 weeks or more (if that occurs) can make you anemic. so if you get your period like i got mine (heavy and long lasting) make sure you eat lots of spinach or dark green leafy veggies to maintain your iron levels in your blood!
