Hi everyone, just entered the hut Saturday evening, in time for Christmas! At the same time, I went to the doctor who gave me antibiotics and steroids(prednisone) for mono. I am kind of weirded out by taking the steroids, though I've done it once before, also for mono.

Does anyone know of any weird reactions or anything for women taking steroids while menstruating or anything? Just seems like an odd mix...

Also, do steroids do anything to your sex drive?

I took prednisone for a year. It's really hard on the body, but it wasn't any harder on me while menstruating than not menstruating. Careful of mood swings -- it can cause anything from mild ones to bouts of suicidal depression. I never got that bad, but I know folks who can't take it at all because of the depression. I certainly had swings, though.

Take plenty of calcium, and eat lots of dark green veggies. You need that while menstruating anyhow, and prednisone sucks calcium right out of the body.

Also, your doctor will probably tell you to taper off when you're done. Do NOT ignore that advice. Tapering off is absolutely required to avoid horrible, severe mood effects.

ah, thanks for the info. yea it is making me feel really weird, but my tonsils really needed the anti-swelling effect, as they had grown to like 4 times their usual size...

I am prone to mood swings anyway, so I hope it doesn't get worse...

You don't mention if you are on the pill?
If you are I hope your doctor mentioned that antibiotics + pill = dodgy contraceptives. A friend has a 7yo son due to her doctor not mentioning this.
